Team members are often resistant due to concerns about the amount of work ahead or unfamiliarity and possible risks that can be solved by addressing these concerns. Initially, we need to show that this approach conforms to standards and engineering codes. Generally, engineers are more receptive to changes aligned with best practices or regulatory requirementsNext, we can take a look at the long-term benefit of this approach, which by itself can resolve the short-term issues. It helps the team to understand how the new design approach aligns with future project goals or positions the team or company for success.

The key is to emphasize avoiding what I call "the blockbuster effect". At one point in time, being of the age to obtain a blockbuster card was a true halcyon event. However, resistance to change means that most people under the age of 15 have never heard of Blockbuster, let alone been in one. When presented with the opportunity to buy Netflix, executives of the former opined that streaming content was a foolish concept. Relating that to engineering, it's crucial for those in the field to herd that cautionary tale. If the design approach is new, more efficient, and accepted by governing codes, it is worth investigating and utilizing where deemed feasible.

It depends on who's resisting. You can tell them you disagree but if it's the client resisting, they always get their way. "NEW design approaches" In my business there likely isn't a single NEW design approach. Somebody trying to get noticed just thinks they discovered something new. If your experience says their wrong, try and explain it to them but stand your ground if you know you're right. If they outrank you, it's time to CYA or possibly look for another job.
