Power Struggle! Isn’t it an oxymoron of sorts? On any given day, the power of passion, purpose, & performance will triumph over the power of selfishness, senselessness & stupidity. In any partnership, power struggles arise when one partner loses their sense of purpose. As a sane partner, it’s crucial to focus on the “out-comes” rather than being perturbed by what “comes-out” of the other partner’s ego trip. Our larger goal should always be the focus, allowing those with love for power to continue their trip until they inevitably trip. Arguing with egoistic partner risks dragging you to their level, resulting in two partners consumed by the same ego. Hence, it is essential to play our role judiciously and continue the good work. It really depends on the nature of the partnership (answering this from the POV of a brand/strategic partnership, paid or contra) and how the relationship was established in the beginning: Objectives: Always come back to the shared objectives of the partnership (which have ideally been agreed at the beginning) - why did you choose to partner in the first place? Partnership terms: Look at the agreed terms (assets, contract), are you working towards achieving this or deviating? Relationship: At the heart of partnerships are relationships, be open, have a conversation, understand where they're coming from and meet in the middle where possible

One of the strategies I usually use would be having a clear communications with confidence. I do also always listen and prepare to explore and collaborate in more meaningful way. After all, partnership is all about mutual understanding and benefit. However, always learn when to walk away if the partnership becomes too toxic or detrimental to your well-being, evaluate whether it may be necessary to step back or exit the collaboration.
