In my opinion, navigating leadership competition in a training session requires maintaining a collaborative mindset and focusing on shared goals. By actively listening to others' perspectives and fostering open communication, conflicts can be addressed constructively. Additionally, staying composed and demonstrating problem-solving skills can help establish credibility and encourage teamwork, ensuring the session remains productive.

Leadership conflict is about respect. If a trainer is called in or an internal trainer then respect is due to the trainer doing the training. There is no reason to bring up personal ego in a training session. As my father once taught me as a child, “There’s a time and place for everything” It’s a character defect to confront a trainer in the middle of training unless it is harmful to themselves or others. The time and place is for conversation is after the training and in private. If there is still an issue, then there should be a mediator that can join the conversation to clarify the issues. When I explain this to my staff it puts things in perspective and we usually have great training sessions.

If the trainer is going to handle the leadership level learners, then certainly there could be ego or personality clash. If we go through that, it could be overwhelming but we have to control that feeling. If they get to know that we got intimidated, then they will show more power dynamics. We need to be assertive, empathetic & also affirmative. We need to handle the situation in a professional & rational way. If we are clear about what we do, then we can be very progressive in our approach.
