The most important aspects of influencer compensation are: (1) know your concrete goals and (2) have good data. Using those two aspects as your "dynamic duo" will guide the pricing conversation. Sometimes it's not about CTAs or conversions, it may be about awareness. An influencer who has a lot of engagement (and even awareness) may not be able to get you a lift (sales, brand, more followers, etc). Data and martech for analysis (like Opus Intelligence Labs) can guide you by mapping out the audience, the relevance of the influencer to your brand or service, and then you can work out pricing based on a scientific approach. If you've got an influencer demanding higher compensation and your goal is to enhance your brand reputation, I'd start with the question, "does this influencer have a reputation strong enough to impact my brand?" I'd argue - much as I believe in influencers and their ability to raise awareness, explain products, drive revenue - most aren't going to have a strong enough reputation to change the perception of your brand. If they do, however you assess that, then I certainly would strongly consider paying up, even beyond the value of short term metrics. I'd be looking at a long-term ambassador type deal to try to get some discounting back in but more importantly to keep them away from my competitors.

You should have done an impact assessment before engaging the influencer. That and how much budget is available will give you your answer. If people are asking for more money and it’s justified then great, if it’s not I would say there is a big question mark over the influencer.
