I find it hard to imagine this scenario can happen. First I attract my ideal clients with my marketing who are incapable of being inappropriate. Second, I select all my clients who align with my values. If it happened, I'd put it on writing so we both have a chance to handle it professionally and calmly.

Set clear boundaries early. Redirect the conversation to focus on professional goals and mutual interests. Stay calm, firm, and polite—address the issue privately if needed. Consistency in upholding respect ensures the relationship remains constructive.

As a Business Coach, maintaining professionalism is essential, especially when conversations veer into inappropriate territory. I handle these situations by calmly redirecting the discussion back to the agreed goals. For example, I might say, “That’s an interesting perspective, but let’s refocus on the challenges we’re here to solve.” This approach sets clear boundaries while respecting the client. By keeping the session productive and aligned with their objectives, I ensure they leave with actionable insights, not distractions. Professionalism isn’t just about boundaries; it’s about staying client-focused and solution-oriented. Good luck, Simon…

Mantenha a calma e o profissionalismo Respire fundo, mantenha a postura respeitosa e profissional, independentemente do comportamento do cliente.

You tell them you find it inappropriate, ask them to stop and if the offense is bad enough - you stop working with them. Use your best judgment and if you are uncomfortable escalating to a manager, HR team, or other leader who can help (or firing a client if you are a business owner) then maybe the kind of work you are doing isn’t right for you. Do not allow others to oppress you!

A few pre-requisites, - Set the clear expectations and agenda of the meet/ planning - Have a well planned, articulated presentation - Make sure to keep the presentation engaging, persuading, compelling However, if someone comes up with an inappropriate topics, - Acknowledge, and if you know the answer, respond back in an assertive and professional way - In case, if you do not have the answer, on a humorous note, you can let the audience answer - Ask a question for a question to understand the underlying agenda - Redirect the topic to all pre-requisites - Sometimes, you can ignore the questions - If it's asked in chat, always have your co-host to take some of these questions and dilute the situation #AbhijeetBatsa

In my opinion, a coach is useful if he/she produces results, without wasting time on useless discussions that deviate from the coaching objective. Every now and then it is useful to dust off the old motto: "Business is business, nothing personal" with those who do not understand the purpose of the coaching in which they are participating. These my 2 Cents.
