To be honest, I am one of people who disagree with gamification concept to encourage people in training. We should create a simple concept for training which they can feel directly the outcome & impact of their attendance. It would be through on the field group discussion or personal mentoring - minimize in class session. And also, the training modules should relate what they really need for their current role or near future role.

First of all training program should not be limited to class room. It must have few or many of following elements to involve the participants.. @ Group work / exercise @ Gamification @ Quiz & awards @ Role plays @ Using audio visuals @ Debate on industry success / failure stories It may be in phase manner & in between participant should be motivated through applied learning.

Training concepts which just involves didactics and using slides to train teams is passe in my opinion. Adults by nature learn best by doing, touching and performing "hands-on"! Over the years I have included wet labs using porcine hearts for anatomy or demonstrating product effectiveness on biologic tissue... these are not just high impact but also help in a better understanding that people seldom forget. One can be innovative and creative in training.. I have used kahoot, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and also jeopardy game formats with great successes and feedback from participants. Sales teams especially love formats that have a competitive element to it!

As an MSW post graduate and HR professional looking after L&D in my plant, I think the conventional ways of training have turned out to be nothing more than a classroom lecture series wherein the effectiveness of the trainings is taking a nosedive. We must understand that when we criticize the teaching patterns of schools and colleges, we cannot be expecting any different results from our own trainings following the same patterns. This is where gamification comes in which is a validated method of group work. And that is why I think games can be a great method to create an experiential learning experience in your training.

Gamification is a powerful tool to create "stickiness" for the key points you want participants to retain. Incorporate team-based trivia competitions that are short, fun, and rapid-fire into your training program—at the beginning, middle, and end. Plan these activities thoughtfully and build them into your presentation. Take on the role of an MC to set the stage right from the start. Organize participants into teams, use engaging props (buzzers, prizes, and a scoreboard) to keep the energy high. A structured approach, rather than an impromptu one, ensures maximum impact. Conclude with a final trivia round that gives the winning team their moment in the spotlight. When preparation and innovation meet, training sessions become memorable.
