First of all, autonomy doesn’t mean “anything goes.” It’s trusting your team while giving clear parameters. Align them with organizational objectives—something like, “Our focus this quarter is reducing response times. How can we achieve this in your area?” Then, let them create their own action plan. Regular progress reviews also help keep things on track.

1. Start by being cristal clear with the goals and expectations. Our teams will be synchronized if we follow that rule. 2. We have to let them work. That means giving them autonomy, which also means accepting that they will make mistakes. 3. How do we notice them? Tracking their performance in a periodic basis and giving feedback on time. 4. People love freedom and organizations love having success. That is why we have to trust their ability to solve problems by setting expectations and reviewing performance.

It’s all in communication. Communicating what’s expected: the end goal of course but the opportunity for your team to go one step further or a step on the side and room for exploration. Autonomy comes with methodology, trust and communication. Autonomy is also giving real responsibility to your team.

L’ idée est de tracer un champ de manœuvre clair permettant aux équipes d’agir librement tout en respectant les priorités de l’entreprise. Aussi il faut définir des limites et des indicateurs de performance pour guider leur travail. Un autre objectif est également de créer une culture unique, basée sur les valeurs de l’entreprise, qui encourage l’initiative, la collaboration et l’apprentissage continu, afin de favoriser l’innovation tout en restant aligné avec les objectifs stratégiques.

A mí me resultó útil estructurar equipos compuestos por personas de diferentes áreas, a fin que todos pudieran aportar a la construcción de la solución según su experiencia y conocimiento. A esos equipos se les indico cuáles eran los objetivos generales a lograr entregándoles libertad para que ellos se organizarán bajo la conducción de uno de sus integrantes como líder de equipo. Luego se fijaron fechas para la entrega de avances, lo que se hacía en reuniones cortas, de no más de 30 minutos, donde se verificaba lo realizado, las dudas y propuestas que tenían como equipo.

Considero muy importante la autonomía del equipo. Un equipo con autonomía de gestión será un equipo más maduro, más comprometido y más eficaz. Para ello hay que trasladar muy bien las orientaciones, ser transparente en él porque de cada acción y sobre todo respaldar las decisiones que tomen de dentro de ese marco para que sientan la confianza de seguir tomándolas Un lider aporta mucho más desde la comunicación, la escucha y la cercanía que desde el control.
