Always encourage a cohesive cooperating environment, weekly meetings and an open floor for everyone to pitch in their updates and motivate them even on their smallest achievements because it makes a difference, make groups for every project, always follow up with them, clarify any miscommunication on spot, give example of success stories to encourage them further.

One thing I have seen to work is have both parties define the problem statement in their own way. They should highlight the constraints ( real-time vs async, budget, deadline etc). And build a simple solution statement doc. A lot of times when you document something, you are able to recognize nuances you missed earlier. One this is done, both of the solutions can be compared in a more quantified fashion. Eg. Solution A allows us to run async but solution B prevents unnecessary task tracking by being sync. Solution A is cheaper but solution B can be implemented faster (less man hour cost) This also often results in a solution hybrid of two approaches.

The technique also helps get input from the “quieter voices” who otherwise may be drowned out by excessive “Type As”.

When the team understands the bigger picture, it’s easier to focus on solutions rather than personal approaches.

First of all having different approaches is something healthy if utilized properly. When all agree on one approach this doesn’t mean that this is the perfect way. At the end, my goal is to let the team present their ideas and have them discussed along with the clarifications and then we may use several voting methods to come up with agreed upon solutions
