R&D Team needs to communicate why Technology used is noble enough, making complex issues with a simple solution. Marketing Team usually worry, unproven and unappealing; indeed, there are truth from that traditional available market. But R&D Team will describe why this New Product Development is opening a market that doesn't exist, because simply there isn't anyone having that set of issues solved by one elegant solution. Occupying unfilled market is the role of NPD Team, in time, Marketing Team will appreciate between existing & new market. Again, exciting market needs that appeal, while new market always go for functionality, can it solve that unfulfilled problem; if do, launch that version one & follow-up with more appealing as V2.

Teamwork and excellent communication is key. Marketing can only promote current products and services but also need to communicate well with R+D to understand new things in pipeline, but need to communicate what the market wants/needs so R+D can prioritise work to deliver. Failure to have this communication and work will result in failure

In over 4 decades in product development, I've learned that the right process clearly defines the responsibilities, stakeholders and decisionmakers. The process needs to include the foundation of detailed requirements, the identification of user personas and target market segments. In addition, concept reviews and design reviews are needed at every stage, where Product Managers represent the Voice of Customer. They are ultimately the ones to decide on whether R&D has met the requirements. Program Managers ensure that the dialog is healthy and stakeholder representation is balanced, while the right data and logic is presented and considered. Emotions and egos need to be checked at the door.
