Assuming we’ve gathered user feedback already, here's how I would approach this: It starts with navigation—the key question is, are users finding what they need, when they need it? I begin by collecting inspirations with strong navigation and information hierarchy principles, then weigh the pros and cons of adopting similar architectures. Next, I sketch 3 options, combining different ideas to create IA structure variations. At this stage, you’re already 68% there. I then conduct “what-if” thought experiments with the team, mentally playing out user scenarios for each variation. Finally I create a proposed annotated IA skeleton, detailing each section’s purpose to ensure clarity, team alignment, and consistent application of IA principles

To ensure a fluid experience, I would prioritise user testing to identify friction points and simplify AI interactions. I would adopt an iterative cycle of improvements, focusing on accessibility and intuitive design. In addition, I would use behavioural analysis to adjust functionalities based on users' real needs.

In the case the IA is impeding usability, the IA needs to be reworked. Understand via data and user testing the shortcomings of the IA and work on them to improve the usability.

Creating an effective Information Architecture (IA) requires a fine balance between creativity and usability. To ensure a seamless user experience, you must be vigilant in evaluating user feedback to spot areas of discomfort, adapting the design to better meet their needs. Usability testing plays a vital role—it reveals challenges users face and highlights opportunities to refine the layout, leading to a more intuitive interaction. To further enhance usability, simplify navigation by limiting options and using clear labels for sections. These strategies not only bolster usability but also encourage creativity by providing a solid foundation for innovative design elements.

Conducting a card sorting session will provide valuable insights into the challenges users encounter with the information architecture of an application. Following the analysis of users' mental models, we will restructure the information architecture of the application and conduct further testing to gather user feedback.
