Well I can certainly provide an example of how NOT to do it. I started a new site called High Performance Laptops. Dell's Head of Comms said I should ask the Head of Marketing for support has "They had money to spend." Fast forward nearly two years of me supporting Dell, I was called up and told that, after consulting with multiple stakeholders and lawyers, instead of supporting my work, they would instead launch their own "High Performance Laptops" site and spend money on advertising that instead. I was told by the Head of Comms that they had already been supporting me for over a year by, "Providing me with review samples which deliver value to your readers." Dell Australia is not going to like the forthcoming content campaign against it.

When a branding strategy shifts, aligning influencer content is essential. Here’s my approach: 1. Early Communication: Notify influencers about the rebrand and timeline in advance. 2. Accessible Resources: Store updated guidelines, logos, and assets on a cloud drive for easy access. 3. Comprehensive Brand Package: Share new guidelines, offer brand training, and provide tools to ensure they understand the rebrand. 4. Have a discussion with the team(s) influencer content will be supporting and gain an understanding of the new objectives to inform the channels, content style, and function needed from influencers. Awareness, UGC, and acquisition look different per channel and per campaign. Also establish some early workstreams to be up-to-date with the new audiences, messaging, and objectives of the brand. To sustain alignment, inform the team of the new influencer strategy, shifts in the contract approach, and have them involved in new briefing calls, concept scripts, and guidelines in briefs. And just be honest when influencers no longer fit the new branding or objectives– they can shift to more unique projects, paid, or awareness/PR support.
