I've handled this situation many times and in many ways depending on the company approaching me. My most solid advice is not to enter the influencer marketing world UNTIL you have a budget big enough to offer fair payment. Influencers work all day every single day to remain relevant in a way that is useful to the companies that use our services. It is INCREDIBLY hard to obtain, let alone retain, a following of thousands of people who also happen to be consumers and uphold the image we strive to maintain. Because this isnt a 9-5 job and some influencers are better than others, pricing varies. Companies who will get cheaper pricing with me for instance, are those who have a product and CULTURE I believe in are companies I will work with

It's important to establish a long term relationship of friendship and collaboration. Identify the microinfluencers that often have more interactions than the big ones and are less expensive. Offer gifts but this is not the right way to establish a long collaboration. It's a one shot. Influencers must be paid because they are professionals. Also, ask them if you can arrange to do something programmatically and, if so, if they offer a discount or if they will work some other kind of deal with you. This way, you are not doing one-off content pieces and may be able to arrange for a series of pieces instead, along with a consistent theme. You can try offering non-monetary incentives, but this will only work if you have a high-dollar product to offer in lieu of cash. Don't waste their time otherwise.
