Raw material- based on EPDs and CO2e declaration 2. Manufacturing- using energy source and consumption data on real time. 3. Packaging/ transport- based on real time input data- packaging consumption, building/ facility energy usage, smart sensors. 4. Consumption - using sensors (eg- iot data capture) 5. End-of-life reporting. A process view helps identify measurement points and pit sensors to monitor and report.

For example - if you take a construction project, I would expect a contractor to have a real-time view of While Life Cycle Carbon for all materials, construction activities, equipments etc. even if they use average data for an activity. I think a lot more emphasis is needed on getting this adherence from 10-20% to over 90% before we start working on more precise / dynamic data

Start with small wins - choose a provider that makes sense to you. If you are confused in a demo - don't buy it! Also, you do not need to know everything about every risk. What you do need is software that walks you through what you do need to know and HOW to do it.

The construction industry standardized almost everything. A good step forward would be to standardize the charging mechanism/device for all phones, laptops, ear pods, etc. This one move would eliminate an extraordinary amount of landfill waste and increase affordability to all users!

I admit to not being well traveled and so therefore uneducated as to the status of technology adoption across the world. My interest piqued when I saw the term reuse. Given the large economic stratification across not only the world, but our own country, I think reuse could be a component that could positively affect those less fortunate (specifically in the realm of IT, but so many other product lines as well). Due to the large number of producers and consumers, the implementation of the circular economy is challenging. Information on the individual lifecycles is mostly only available locally and therefore does not provide any meaningful assessment of reuse, recycling or remanufacturing. One initiative I recently came across is Catena-X, an open source data eco-system where members can exchange data. According to Catena-X, transparency is essential for a functioning and efficient circular economy. Because only if everybody who influences the circular economy is involved can they exploit its advantages.

Waste as a Resource: Waste is viewed as a valuable input, to be reused or recycled. Systemic Efficiency: Processes are optimized to use resources efficiently and sustainably. By providing clear metrics, these indicators support the transition towards a more sustainable, resource-efficient economy. It can use reasoning to: - Find issues in data quality - Draw business conclusions from reports - Generate reports that are error free - Recommend tactical steps to improve sustainability in business. Companies are already investing a lot of money in implementing AI solutions to become more sustainable, and operationally efficienct.

AI and big data analytics are being applied to analyze large datasets and identify patterns, trends, and correlations related to sustainability indicators, enabling more informed decision-making and predictive modeling.

It can analyse large amount of data from different sources such as energy consumption, waste management, emissions, employee satisfaction, diversity and community impact, etc. map the gaps and missing values in reported data, report the performance, list critical areas for interventions and improvements.

AI is strong at analyzing complex relationships. Today, AI systems are highly specialized in use cases and will certainly remain so for a few more cycles. Today, I use the strengths of AI for the evaluation and automated dimensioning of climate action measures.

Society needs to realize that soil is possibly its most important asset. Efforts to regenerate and build soil profiles will pay off exponentially with better water quality, less chemical input requirements, more nutritious foods, a more resilient food supply and a tremendous carbon storage system.

I am thrilled about Applications of AI in Sustainability Assessment. Data Collection and Analysis is one good area. Satellite Images: AI can process and analyze satellite images to monitor deforestation, urban expansion, and land use changes. For example, AI algorithms can detect illegal logging activities in real-time. Social Media: AI can analyze social media posts to gauge public sentiment on environmental issues, detect pollution incidents, and track sustainability trends. Sensor Data: AI systems can process data from environmental sensors to monitor air and water quality, energy consumption, and waste production. Text Documents: Natural language processing (NLP) algorithms can extract relevant information from research works.

Our clients are trying to leverage existing core platforms or Excel when reporting. Excel struggles with structured and unstructured data. We are also seeing a rising cost for a CSRD audit. Where data remains in core systems, auditors have to go into these systems to prove the data exists and is correct - and this results in repetition and duplication of tasks and effort - adding a major additional cost to the whole reporting and validation exercise. We advocate a more flexible approach with an Alteryx analytics based platform, that can be amended in hours/days to adapt to new requirements, captures the complete data lifecycle and provides a platform that can greatly reduce the audit and legal costs.
