Reporting, auditing, documenting and training are all key points but action is crucial. Solve issues on the spot, escalate immediately if needed and keep the progress going as much as practical. Work as a team to find solutions and not only document problems.

Unifed Safety System for employees says Stay Alert and Be Aware of Surroundings because if our employees become complacent and fail to remain aware of their surroundings accidents can happen. Staying alert on the job prevents injury to themselves or others. Training to Identify Potential Hazards assists our employees in recognizing potential hazards, ranging from slip-and-fall perils or equipment malfunctions to accidents by other workers. All Hazards are reported to a supervisor immediately and addressed promptly. Maintaining Concentration, Focus and Vigilance is our everyday goal on all construction sites. Employees are required to avoid distractions that put them or others at risk on the job. Always look up, look down, and look around.

Develop Job safety Analysis documents or Job Hazard Environment Analysis documents, ensure all workers at the site are aware of the contents of these documents. These documents highlight the possible risks and hazards related to all the works to be done at the site. Ensure all employees engaged in activities on the site and conversant with the contents of these documents and have them sign on it as proof. Apply all control measures suggested in these documents in order to carry out works with minimal to no injuries or accidents occuring!!

The best way to implement safety, is to practice it. Don’t just talk about it. Get out there and practice it. Showing those around you that you care will lead to others doing the same. You must embrace safety down to the smallest things. Again don’t just talk about it practice it by coaching by walking around. I have found rewarding those that engage in safe work practices is key. It does not have to be a gift card to Home Depot, a shirt or anything major. Simply buying them lunch off the break truck will go a long way. Encourage those around you to ask questions and randomly award those that answer. Again embrace it and make it your own is key.

When safety concerns escalate on a construction site, the first step is to conduct a Pareto analysis to identify the top contributors to these issues. Once the critical items are identified, perform a root cause analysis to determine underlying factors and develop a targeted strategy to address them. Implement the strategy and monitor its effectiveness through regular reviews, repeating the process as needed. Set measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), such as reductions in Recordable Incident Frequency (RIF) or Serious Incident Frequency (SIF), to track progress. This iterative approach ensures continuous improvement and brings safety violations to an acceptable level.
