The first line is somewhat misleading, “The validity and reliability of your results depend on the quality of your pretest and posttest instruments.” Validity and Reliability are very different concepts affected by different aspects of your study. Although all could be considered part of ‘the quality’, it is important to recognize there is much more to these. In short, you can have a super reliable measurement (i.e., yields a consistent result) that has absolutely no validity (i.e., it doesn’t measure what you says it measures). You need to do much more than just “design your instruments to align with the learning objectives and outcomes of your intervention.” My 750 characters are spent so the what will have to wait for another post.

The implementation of your pretest and posttest instruments is also important for the accuracy and fairness of your results. Thus, you should choose an appropriate timing and setting, such as administering the pretest before the intervention starts and the posttest after the intervention ends in a location that minimizes distractions. Another consideration that you should have is a method to identify the test taker across the pre and post assessments so that you can match the responses by test taker. Although the name of the test taker may be sufficient, it is not always feasible. Therefore, you should consider developing another unique identifier such as a student number that you can use to label the assessments and match the results by test taker in preparation for analysis.

You should use appropriate statistical methods and tools to compare the scores and determine the effect size and significance of your intervention. Additionally, you should discuss the implications and recommendations of your results for practice and research, suggesting how they can inform and improve your instructional practice, curriculum, or program. Identifying the gaps and questions that remain for further research is also important.
