How can software product teams prioritize features and requirements?

For startups or scale-ups another reason for prioritizing is the Pareto principle or the 80/20 rule. “Which states that for many outcomes, roughly 80% of consequences come from 20% of causes.” So it’s important to find those 20% features or requirements and prioritize them.

Besides the fact that proper prioritisation of features maximises the value of development team, I have also noted that teams are much more likely to stay focused and involved when they know how and why particular feature was prioritised. In other words, make sure your teams know why this is valuable. Anyone would be happy to finish a working week with a feeling of great job done.

To get stuff done, it is very important to define priority. If everything is urgent, nothing is urgent. Determine the priority using business impact, deadlines and create a roadmap

It completely depends on the requirement and also the feasibilty. For eg. There is a task A, for this need to be done you can make another change which can ease the work done for A. So now instead of start doing that change, go for task A first, as it is required most at that time, and you can parallely work on the optimisation thing, which will help you out in the future scopes.
