As an HR, you’re the first person new hires meet, so it’s important to build a good connection with them. Start by understanding their background and culture, then share your company’s culture with them. On their first day, instead of giving them a long induction slide, take them around the office and tell the story of your company - Talk about when and where the company started, how it grew, and where it’s headed, and its values and purpose. Also, explain the code of conduct and expectations, but keep the conversation open and approachable. This personal, storytelling approach will lead to better connections with new hires and results than any formal 100 page presentation. Finally leave the door open for them to approach you anytime

Start the connect even before they onboard, right from offer through their DOJ, give them sense of the culture. Welcome Emails, proactive calls to brief their onboard, being available whenever they have a question or have the need to be heard are they key. Settling takes time not just as a new joiner but applicable for any life events , ensuring new hires there is enough help available speaks a lot about the culture.
