I use headphones and make it clear I’m not open for a chat but I don’t listen to anything. I might listen but don’t engage, the headphones let me not have to reply and lock in a little bit more. You have to recognize what pulls you away the most; a certain noise, your phone, the chatter. This was actually a struggle in my office recently, we are in a temporary space which is very open. The lack of efficiency in the office started to take a toll on me, then I decided to actively practice my quiet/ focused time. Not letting my self chat and also not over stimulate myself with even more music or podcasts was pivotal. I enjoy being around people but I also have lots to do!

Create a Personal Focus Zone: Use noise-canceling headphones, white noise apps, or calming music to block distractions. Set up visual cues, like a “Do Not Disturb” sign or wearing headphones, to signal colleagues when you need uninterrupted time. Adopt Time-Blocking Strategies: Allocate specific time slots for focused work and group tasks. Use techniques like the Pomodoro method to work in short, dedicated intervals, ensuring productivity while accommodating breaks to recharge. Communicate and Collaborate Effectively: Politely address distractions by setting boundaries or suggesting alternative times for discussions. Encourage a culture of respect for focused work, where team members collaborate in ways that minimize disruptions.

One thing I’m adamant about is the Time Wealth Locked-In T.I.M.E.(R.) method. To ensure focus you need to: 1. Set your TARGET 2. Set your INTENT 3. Set your MEASURE 4. Set yourself up to EXECUTE And if you get off track… 5. REFOCUS-address the distraction and re-engage in your focused work
