Despite arriving early for setup and ensuring everything works initially, unexpected tech failures can still occur during a session. When faced with such challenges, I promptly seek technical support and adapt my plan to maintain session continuity. (always have a backup plan in case tech fails, e.g. ice-breaker or activity that relates to the session)

It is always helpful to prepare for technical hiccups, because they happen often. How? - Have a Back Up presentation on Mobile, or in Hard Copy format. - Know your presentation inside out, in case you cannot access the electronic copy. - Always arrive early to ensure that you can test equipment. - Have a back up equipment like, capable power bank, portable projector if possible, and portable speaker where you can connect back up mike. No matter what happens, do not blame the organiser or the client. Show the participants that you are well prepared for emergencies as well. Great recovery will potentially make participants respect you even more.

Tech often doesn’t work! When preparing for something, it’s always at the top of my troubleshooting list! In advance of the event, I’ll try to see if a person from the venue can be available 30 minutes before starting time to troubleshoot. If not and / or if the workshop is very high stakes, I might have paper back up. Or at least, I’ll have paper materials for critical activities, so they can run even if the tech fails.

Two is one and one is none. Always have options + stay calm if either plan goes to sh*t. When I plan I ask... "What tech do I know I need" and "Do X if Y fails" -- it's simple, plan ahead and be open to pivoting on the spot. For in person sessions — ↳ Try to use minimal or no technology, no one need death by PowerPoint, use the senses. For virtual sessions — ↳ Have backup tools and know how to translate into physical activities (ex: always have people bring paper and pen, include it in your workshop expectations so you can shift to write down ideas.) ↳ As a facilitator who runs many virtual sessions I have two Internet service providers so I don't have the issue of "internet going down" unless for some weird reason both are out!
