Contrary to popular assumption, virtual coaching can be more effective than coaching in person, particularly with more introverted individuals. A sense of psychological safety can be enhanced when in familiar surroundings. All coaching relationships require a degree of rapport building, so take time to check in to ensure that whatever direction the coaching takes it suits the coachee and be sure to invite the coachee to dictate the level of challenge they would like from you as a coach. Also mix it up in terms of approach and activities to maintain engagement if you can.

Use shared documents, whiteboards, or mind-mapping tools during sessions to encourage collaboration and provide alternative ways for them to communicate ideas. 3. Set the expectations on the table on the first call. Just be authentic, let them know you're not there to judge and that you genuinely want to hear their struggles. Let them know how you relate to them. That's what inspired you to where you are today. Then just ask great questions and thank them for sharing.

I have never seen an introvert in a one and one coaching call have issues speaking their truth With the right questions and personality and introvert can remain an introvert.. it’s okay as they will feel safe and spreak. You will need to read what they aren’t saying.. but as a coach you are doing that anyway Or should be..

I find these things are key: 1. Establish and manage expectations before you start having calls. Explain how you work and what they can expect from the sessions clearly. They'll be more relaxed & feel you're a space where it's safe to share and discuss. 2. Start every call by asking how they feel today. I've found this creates an opportunity to express their discomfort about sharing or being the focus of our sessions. Hearing this out loud often gives them a chance to challenge these feelings. 3. I ask, regularly, how they're finding our work together and whether the way we're interacting is working for them. I usually do this out of the session time. Giving them other options creates trust and openness to express any concerns.
