What do you do if you're a software developer facing a complex problem?

First step would be to analyze the problem in detail and then define problem statement which documents - Scope - Valid assumptions, if any - Know limitations, if any. - If applicable review above information with stakeholders and revise if necessary. Iterate. make assumptions during iterations. Also choose which developer can work on which problem, depending on their skill and their ability to think differently.

In my experience if you are stuck with any problem just take a halt move out do something which you like just relax your mind. Then plan your approach that might give you a work around to the problem which was not popping up when mind was stressed.

Quando estamos enfrentando problemas complexos ao desenvolver um software, o caminho mais sensato é debugar o software. Se houver testes, executá-los pode dar dicas significativas de onde o problema está acontecendo, e então, com o uso de "breakpoints", é possível executar o software de modo que ele pare em uma parte onde você acredita estar o problema, e ir avançando linha a linha, até que o erro aconteça. É quase 100% de certeza que desta forma você encontrará alguma informação que está sendo enviada errada ou que nem sequer está presente, mas deveria.

Log files are a rich source of information and can greatly assist in identifying the root cause of complex issues. Sometimes they are too boring but they have been my best friend always leading the way to the source of the bug. It gets even more interesting when the error message or exception shows the error you already know but is not the actual source. I could call it bug hunting and it is worth it with today's modular software architectures with complex functionalities and interactions.

Debugging my code: I love using the console.log function to see my errors, I also handle my errors with a try catch code block, react hot toast to toast me the error message. This way I get to know where the error is coming from, I go to the file and then I try out my debugging skills to solve my issue

Un consejo que suelo dar, y aplico en mi mismo, cuando tenemos una entrevista y se nos pregunta sobre un tema que no conocemos, es decir la verdad: "No lo sé pero puedo investigarlo". No se pretende que sepamos todo, pero si que estemos dispuesto a investigar todo en caso de ser necesario. One thing I have found really helpful is to just start by focusing on the smallest problem at hand and iterate over it multiple times as you will naturally stumble upon the best solution for your scenario. Software development is an extremely difficult task so it’s most unlikely that you will find the best solution right away. The best solutions are found by iterating over less optimized solutions!

Break the problem down into smaller parts - normally on paper helps because I find it faster than any tools. Use things like flowcharts and data flow diagrams for the individual parts and map the inputs and outputs to the next chunk of the problem. Some developers can then code because they visualise everything - but it may be easier to wrtie some tests around the critical parts of functionality and use a TDD approach. This is sometimes slower and personally I am a visual mathemetician so I code and then write my tests to ensure I have solved the problem and also to help other changes and developments ensure robustness in the code. I then optimize for performance, but the way I think I normally solve problems in parallel first and tweak.

While debugging and solving a problem. Don't underestimate yourself. Don't assume everything work properly. Don't pressurized yourself. Don't work continuously. Don't try to solve multiple problems simultaneously. Do intake is water. Make sure to get fresh air. Do take small breaks. Also keep the user in mind and solve problems which affect users first. Be motivated, be curious, learn, earn and grow.
