When a brand wants changes that compromise my authenticity, I negotiate to find a middle ground. I ask about their ultimate goals and which specific part of my style doesn’t fit, then adapt where it makes sense. But I always remind them - people come to me for my authenticity, so if that’s not what they want, I have to question why they hired me in the first place. Integrity isn’t something I’ll compromise on. If push comes to shove, I’d rather reject the job. Then, I’ll talk about it on my live shows - don’t let good content go to waste! Saying “no” with integrity can be powerful, and we can all use that to strengthen our personal brand.😉 P.S. This tips is applicable too for your job interviews =}

As an influencer marketer, balancing brand demands with authenticity is key to building trust with audiences. I set clear boundaries upfront with brands, outlining non-negotiables to prevent conflicts later. If a request doesn’t align, I suggest alternative approaches that still achieve the brand’s goals while resonating with the influencer’s voice. Authenticity is crucial, so I ensure every piece of content remains genuine and true to the influencer's style. By doing this, I maintain audience trust and deliver value to both the brand and followers, creating a partnership that feels authentic and impactful.

Just do the opposite of what Jaguar would do - you can’t do any worse. This post requires 125 characters to respond so I am just filling space at this point.

To maintain influencer integrity, communicate openly with the brand about your values and why they resonate with your audience. Politely explain that compromising your authenticity could impact the trust you've built and, ultimately, the campaign's effectiveness. Propose alternative ways to align with their goals while staying true to your style and message. If they’re unyielding, consider declining the partnership. Staying authentic may mean passing on certain opportunities, but it protects your credibility and fosters long-term success and trustworthiness with your audience.

My integrity should not be questioned so I would keep it realistic, simple, and direct with the brand. My followers trust me because I’m real with them, and if I change that I think they would notice it, and there will be a risk to loose them instead. With a good strategy we could find ways to meet their goals and work together without compromising my authenticity or realness, which I assume is the reason the brand gravitated to me in the first place. For example, I could still feature the product, but in a way that feels like me, not like a script or like someone else. I think that protecting my brand's integrity benefits both of us. If the message comes across as honest, my audience will connect with, and that’s how we both win.

The best way to preserve your authenticity as an influencer is to set clear expectations with the brand, openly communicate your values, and offer creative alternatives to meet their goals while staying true to your voice. If necessary, politely decline opportunities that could compromise your integrity, emphasizing how authenticity fosters trust and long-term success for both parties.

Maintaining influencer integrity requires open communication with the brand. Just because a deal is made doesn’t mean the influencer must comply with every demand. True collaboration involves discussing concerns and offering solutions. Often, brand requests come from their own perspective—based on data or assumptions—not always considering the influencer's authenticity. Explaining that protecting the influencer's integrity ultimately benefits the brand's image can help resolve these situations, as both parties want/need to maintain credibility. So don't be afraid of voicing concerns. And if in spite of that, no compromise can be found, well, if it is a deal breaker, it is a deal breaker! Moving on ;)

Beware of distractions, disguised as opportunities. It may seem counterintuitive because you want the business, but you have to say a hard NO to compromise. Your value is more than the number of followers or subscribers. It is the unique and mysterious qualities that you possess that motivate people to pay attention to you once you give that up for the opportunity of making a bigger payday, you have already diluted your true value and sown the seeds for your eventual demise as an influencer. Fear not - one door closes another one opens. Keep your eyes looking forward and maintain the authenticity of who you are as your most valuable asset.

Show, don't tell. Products/values/visions of a company and therefore the products need to match the influencer you work with.
