Start by doing your research to check each vendor's reputation and reliability. Ask for references and talk to other businesses for honest reviews. When you meet with potential vendors, be open about your needs for your business and expectations from the partnership. Ask questions about their sourcing practices, quality control measures, delivery reliability and contingency plans. Doubling up of the same supplier, is good advice. Some business owner's get very close and have very strong friendships with suppliers and remain loyal to them for years. This in some cases can be very beneficial for both parties, It depends on the business. Large contract catering companies use the same brand supplier for all their catering units. I have a bit of a issue with this because the supplier is to big and not always consistent. its hard to complain as they have such a large monopoly. You have to build a good working relationships and rapport. However you have to think about the needs of business. i.e. you find a supplier that offer you better quality or helps maximise your're net profit.
