The most important things to be aware of when setting community goals is that community building is a long term strategy and takes long term effort. Hence the KPI’s should reflect that. Other more “live” KPI’s for your daily cockpit could be things as DAU or other activity metrics like sessions, logins etc.

Hence, it is extremely important that you define the positioning and value proposition of your channel keeping your core TG in mind. If you're looking to build a loyal audience, I suggest moving them over to an email Newsletter. Whatever social platform you're currently building your audience on, is liable to an algorithm change. Their feed is curated based on what they like ATM and what the feed gives them. This makes it hard for you to stay top of mind always. One surefire way to make sure you're communicating directly to your audience every single time, is via email. Make them sign up. Then you can be sure that they will receive your content every. single time. They can always opt out if they don't want to hear from you. This tells you that, the ones that are actively subscribed, actively wants to hear from you :) My favourite tool for newsletters is Beehiiv.

My best advice is to go multi channel, dont just stop at eg. TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter Etc. Distribute across channels and tap into the advantage of redistributing content across channels. Eg. Take your best Twitter post of the the week and re-use it for LinkedIn. Or take your best performing TikTok post and use it as a reel on IG. Lastly, remember to own your audience, try and get them to subscribe to a service til patreon so that you are not reliant on eg. META owning your audience.

Your data is your engagement. Comments and likes will give you an indication on whether or not people want more of your content. When talking newsletters or podcasts I would use a system where it's possible to poll your audience with every issue. That's your immediate feedback on every issue. Then I would ask them to write you directly every month or so with feedback they have. Build your audience and product in public. It will only get better.

Data is very important, both quantitative and qualitative. Quantitative is rather easy to gather most platforms serves it to you, measure things like engagement rate, saves, shares etc. For qualitative data you can perform sentiment analysis, and gather feedback from your audience. You can use tools as survey monkey or just ask an open ended question in your content. Be aware of using polls with defined answers, they can some times lead fallacy due to the restricted options for answering, leaving open text fields in your survey or poll can lead to significant findings.

Benchmarking your own content is important to understand what works and what doesn’t. Track your content performance, and do more of what works. Also a quick little tip. Your best performing posts can easily be re-used. Find a post, read the comments incorporate the most asked questions or additions in the comments and re-post. Your don’t have to invent the wheel every time.

Tracking is key, and the findings should be used for improving on your content. Take an iterative approach to your content, understand the goals of your posts and measure the outcomes to understand if the post was successful, improve on what can be improved on based on your data. Hypothesize, test, measure, improve, repeat.
