Understanding the reasons for limiting your colour palette are also helpful, for instance, is it coming from a brand or identity package? Have you made decisions based on accessibility? Finally make sure you have your primary, secondary and tertiary colour palettes set up and if needed link them to the kinds of data visualisations they are appropriate for.
