I see conflict with anyone as being on a riverbank. I am standing by the shoreline. I toss something into the water, it ripples into different directions and scatters. On that same seashore, the raging waves can bring me a beautiful shell or a fisherman is catching some fish. Also NLP teaches that beneath every behaviour is a positive intention This helps me see me that the difficult tendencies are ripples - there is something spooking them. I could show empathy, understanding and build rapport or I could get into fight mode by becoming defensive. Everyone wants to be heard out. Remembering that the stormy waves bring with it treasures, helps me stay calm and subconsciously push the benefits of my views to the client.
