Break the deliverable(s) to the minutest details possible and ensure individual milestone(s) are assigned to team members. Look for any reference(s) in the job and calibrate the response suitably to meet the expectations. Many times, if we know the exact necessary change, the delivery is aligned to meet the deadline keeping only small portion on hold so that the work goes on smoothly as not all details will be needed at the same time and place. The requirement would be staggered and deliverables can also be planned progressively to meet the deadline.

An example I have seen is to adopt the methods to meet the target submission timeline and as equally the optimized engineering review cycle( by focusing to deliver high quality outputs) such as engage the team in cross table Inter-Discipline discussions or brain storming sessions rather than conventional approach of IDC checks

In my opinion, it's always about going directly to the stakeholders and being open about the expected delivery schedule and offering them with a few alternative proposals. By explaining the trade offs and confidence levels in achieving these we can bring the stakeholder along for the delivery journey avoiding last-minute surprises with missed deadlines.
