Firstly, mindfulness helps us to connect with ourselves, which is the base where we start to communicate. When stressful situations arise, our automatic reactions can make conflict resolution more challenging. So we became aware of our automatic reaction patterns. The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) approach helps us develop the ability to pause and respond consciously rather than react impulsively, enabling a more constructive approach to conflict resolution.

Here is what i will say mindfulness melts friction into flow & when conflicts arise we need to teach our team to pause and breathe it’s hard to argue when calm prevails. We should encourage active listening and empathy because the magic happens when egos shrink & understanding grows. Lets remember collaboration blooms where chaos rests.

Its very simplistic to call Mindfulness the solution to the problem. Mindfulness certainly enables the team to be centered, become self aware, and be present. Once that is there it now is the facilitation of a meaningful conversation that surfaces what the causes of conflict and poor collaboration are. The group also needs to take on the ownership of co-creating the solutions to enhance team effectiveness.

Yes, I believe mindfulness is critical for team development. I look at an organization as an organism with a collection of organs, or teams. Each individual can play a key component of organizational success if they are aware and bought into it's purpose, but also know their individual & team function for it to happen. With that personal awareness of self, personal and team function, and organizational purpose, being mindful and/or present is much more simple. Further, the ability of each team member to be aware and maintain a cohesive level of accountability improves as a unit. This removes residual conflict (some short-term conflict is ok) and builds trust for greater collaboration to achieve a uniform higher purpose together.

Mindfulness alone doesn't resolve the conflict - coupled with managing our own emotions and energy, it can definitely be a powerful tool not only in a workplace but in life too. Problems escalate when communication is driven by emotion and emotion often results from past beliefs and perceptions of the situation. In order to calm the situation, once must neutralise the emotions, beliefs and perceptions of it and approach it from a calm and clear mind. Once in that state, the right answers and steps will become apparent. A cluttered mind, however, has no room to receive solutions to problems, which is why mindfulness together with the ability to manage own emotions and energy is essential.
