Meiner Erfahrung nach gibt es keine entweder oder. Für den Unternehmenserfolg ist beides gleichermaßen von Bedeutung. Dabei sind für mich Klarheit und eine ehrliche, offene Auseinandersetzung bzw. Kommunikation der Schlüssel. Kurzfristige Erfolge brauchen unbedingt die Verbindung zu langfristigen Ziele und kultureller Ausrichtung. Das erzeugt Authentizität und Vertrauen, bei den eigenen Mitarbeitern ebenso wie bei Geschäftspartnern und Kunden. Die Brücke zwischen diesen beiden Themen zu bauen und zu erhalten ist Aufgabe des Führungsteams und erfordert LEADERSHIP.

I communicate how immediate achievements contribute to the greater goal, ensuring that short-term targets, such as process improvements or small sustainable deliveries, align with long-term outcomes, like engagement and cultural evolution. I use continuous feedback and recognition to value each step forward, keeping the team motivated and focused. This way, we create a shared plan, reinforcing the vision of lasting transformation without losing the pace of deliveries.

Culture is important but winning is too, as it energises people and makes them feel good about themselves. That's a good time to re-engage people and remind them of your collective longer term goals, as they will be more receptive and less defensive if things need to recalibrate a little.

Culture is the long-game. It is extremely complex, and in a constant state of fluidity. That said, when I think of short-term wins vs. long-term, I still point back to what is most impactful to drive business outcomes. If those short term wins are part of the larger, woven-in long-game goals, then by all means, go get those quick wins.

You achieve long-term objectives in cultural change through a series of short-term wins. The change strategy and implementation plan provide the sequence and timing of actions needed to achieve the overall objectives of the change initiative. Each action is a short-term project that must be won. The long-term view ensures actions are done in the right sequence and time, building a base for the next step and future actions. A deadly Inhibitor of Change occurs when a team focuses on bigger, long-term objectives that seem critical and take significant resources. Without breaking the objective into smaller wins, the team won’t see the success needed to fuel the change. This is a problem I have overcome in every cultural change initiative.

By listening to all perspectives and showing how today’s efforts connect to tomorrow’s success, we turn division into momentum. It’s not about compromise but synergy, where quick wins fuel the culture we’re building together.

As a leader if we simply seek the good and celebrate it, we will begin to find and focus on solutions. This will allow us to build a better tomorrow today by celebrating short-term wins and driving long-term success.
