Even with differing viewpoints I always emphasize that the goal is usually the same. If the goal is the same and it's ultimately for the good/growth of the organization or the task at hand then how we try and go about it can always be analyzed and discussed/brainstormed. Always focus on the goal everyone has when tensions become tight and you can usually bring everyone back to a negotiation level.

Honestly, diverse viewpoints are a blessing if you handle them right. What I personally like to do is let everyone speak up, no judgments, no interruptions, just an open space to hear each other out. Sometimes people just need to feel heard before they’re willing to listen. Then, I zoom out and find common ground. I ask a question like… What’s the bigger goal that brings everyone together? Once I remind the team they’re working toward the same outcome, the focus shifts from ‘my way vs. your way’ to ‘our way.’ At the end of the day, it’s not about winning arguments; it’s about building bridges. Unity doesn’t mean agreeing on everything, it means moving forward together despite the differences.

Compromise is never a win for someone who is seeking for the optimal way out. When fighting for the apple, the solution is not cutting it in a half, but seeking other gardens to get lots of apples.

As a relationship psychologist I would suggest for team members to consider: - Division is a strength as it can expand and stretch everyone's knowledge, skills, and ability to progress by incorporating 'more' of 'what is needed'. - For this to occur team members need to practice an abundance, not scarcity, mindset. - Members to know that "the problem is the problem" - not that the problem is us vs. them. - Each member to share views openly that is depersonalised and situation specific. - Ask each person 'what is the end goal' and 'what would be the simplest and most intelligent way of getting there'. - And practice of mentalisation and empathy - so each member can consider a different perspective
