For me, I believe in the power of team building and rewards to keep a remote team on track. In my experience, be an example. Make clear what the objectives are but if you're leading a team, I feel it's good when your team knows you're a part of the team too and you are on the same wavelength. This comes through clear communication, team-building and acknowledging and respecting one another.

The first thing to check is if what they're doing is truly aligned with the goal. Often because of life's unpredictability, we take on tasks and outcomes that we think is aligned but is actually a different track. Once it's clear that it is aligned, it's then making sure there's an understanding of how that goal affects things moving forward, to tie in their work with the vision of finishing the goal. Regular check-ins help, but it has to be coming from the point of view of "how can I help you get there?" instead of "This is how you get there".

Remote teams demand a unique level of intentionality. Consistent communication rhythms, clear expectations, and collaborative goal-setting are vital. Leverage digital tools to foster connection and track progress, while celebrating wins to maintain morale. Regular check-ins can reveal alignment gaps before they widen. What innovative practices have you adopted to make remote alignment not just possible, but thriving?
