My greatest learning about Accountability - it is totally intrinsically driven. It is very near with Ownership, in fact it is ownership on your promises and commitments. So, how do you normally show ownership? By owning an object. What can give a person the feeling of "owning" the commitments? When they make it on their own will. You cannot impose commitments, you cannot impose accountability. Let people define their performance goals, establish the practice to make mutual commitments between team members. Let everyone a participant of that process, let every single person witness what is promised, and through expectations help the one who granted this commitment, hold it.
