What motivates you to pursue a career in Industrial Design?

For me, industrial design is more than just a profession; it's a passion. Each project is a brand new adventure, encompassing almost everything in the world with endless possibilities and a broad user base. It's not just about drawing a product and bringing it to life; throughout the process, you need to engage with various aspects, from its materials to how it will function. This engagement allows you to better understand people. As I immerse myself in the field with dreams of designing automobiles, I find that I become more captivated with each experience, learning new things every day and continuously growing.

In industrial design, each new project for me is an opportunity to become an expert in a new field. It’s a journey that goes beyond just creating a product; it involves immersing myself in the nitty-gritty of different materials, functions, and interactions. This deep dive not only broadens my skill set but also deepens my connection with various experiences. Every project is a chance to grow, learn, and fuel my passion for design.

The Endless Drive: Why I Chose Design Being an industrial, automotive, and aerospace designer, and studio owner, I see design as more than a job—it's a privilege, a constant journey of self-reinvention. It's not about fitting into the market; it's about creating your own. This field demands a burning desire to innovate and push boundaries. As a co-founder of a micromobility company, the drive to design transcends mere aesthetics; it's about solving real-world problems, shaping the future of mobility and everyday life. This path isn't for everyone—it requires passion, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Every day is a new challenge, a new opportunity to leave a mark.

My passion for industrial design stems from the belief that even the smallest contributions can make a significant impact. Industry design is not just about creating aesthetically pleasing products; it's about making a meaningful difference in people's lives. Prioritizing functionality over ego-driven aesthetics and addressing real user needs are fundamental principles in my approach. By focusing on these aspects and striving to reduce environmental harm throughout the design process, we can contribute positively to our world. This passion for understanding the impact of small decisions fuels my dedication to this field, driving me to create valuable, user-centric products that embody sustainability.

To help HUMANS…period! Industrial Design is not “Product Design”, it is a discipline based on Human Factors and how what we design can make life better for us ALL. It is not about adding “rubber ducks” to Pacific garbage patch. Form follows function, whether you are designing a car, a display, or a system of education. Set clear Objectives, strict Criteria and use the Design Methodology you have been taught to fully release your Creativity. You earned it!✌🏼😊

El diseño industrial es una profesión increíble porque todos los días te encuentras con nuevos retos, nuevos proyectos y muchísimo aprendizaje. En el tiempo que llevo en esta profesión me he encontrado con muchísima gente interesante (clientes, proveedores, colegas, aliados y muchos nuevos amigos) de quienes he aprendido mucho. Los proyectos aunque a veces parezcan ser iguales porque pertenecen a una categoría, la realidad es que siempre van a ser muy diferentes y cada uno tiene un entorno diferente, que te permitirá desarrollar cosas nuevas y sobre todo vivir y aprender del proyecto y sus involucrados. Yo lo llamo, vivir en serendipia! y por eso disfruto tanto esta profesión.

Pursuing a career in industrial design is driven by a passion for creativity, problem-solving, and the desire to make a positive impact on users' lives. The opportunity to shape aesthetics, contribute to society, and engage in continuous learning and collaboration serves as powerful motivation.

For me, industrial/product design offers the opportunity(s) to find new solutions that were previously unknown, but which serve the well-being of people and animals and perhaps make life a little more pleasant for everyone in the future.

Being an expert in Industrial Design is like pursuing your passion, interest, and curiosity about how things are made and why. It’s more than a profession for me. Designing a product or a solution is always an opportunity to learn new things and explore possibilities while shaping new product ideas and improving everyday life. I have been very passionate about art and craft, drawing, and sketching since I was a child, and it has helped me improve my visualization skills and creative articulation. With my background in mechanical engineering and creative design skills, I am more confident in designing every aspect of a design project. I believe industrial design is a creative combination of art, engineering, and science.

My skill set in industrial design is grounded in real-world applications. It includes a strong understanding of how people use products, and a commitment to creating designs that are sustainable, accessible and practical.

With industrial design, my approach is anchored in design thinking. It starts with empathizing with the user, understanding their needs in-depth. From here, I define the problem, which guides the ideation phase, exploring creative solutions. These ideas become prototypes, tangible representations for testing. This feedback loop of prototyping and user testing is essential, iterating until the solution is refined and user-focused. The process is a balance of creative exploration and practical problem-solving, ensuring the final design is both innovative and genuinely useful.

My interest in industrial design lies in its practical impact. I wasn’t cut out to be a fireperson, or a nurse, but this is my way of helping people. There’s a serious satisfaction in designing products that solve everyday problems and improve people’s lives in tangible ways.

While industry accolades such as the Red Dot or the IDSA IDEA Gold are always appreciated and humbling, the true satisfaction comes from knowing my designs help people overcome challenges and achieve their goals, enhancing their day-to-day lives.

En la actualidad aunque en algunos países han comprendido lo importante de un diseñador industrial, el valor en muchos otros países todavía no comprendido en su totalidad el aporte que hace en una industria...
