As leaders, it’s our role to guide quieter team members on how to assert their ideas and help strong personalities understand the value of hearing others out. Most people often attempt to address this dynamic by saying, ‘we need to bring the quiet people into the conversation.’ But there’s a far more effective way that leverages behavioral science to achieve more equal dialogue from your team. Allocate 5 minutes to everybody in the meeting & explain, ‘I am doing this to ensure that I hear from everybody, and if there’s time left over, we’re going to all leave early and take a coffee break.’ This encourages the people who speak too much to start becoming much more concise. It will also nudge the people who are sitting quietly in the room to come into the room and speak. So grateful to @DrGraceLordan for teaching me this powerful strategy.
