Summer 2024 has been busy at The Kingfish Company. For starters: 🐟 We hit the road in the USA with sales directors Lauren Enz and Christa Ingalls-McVey to visit some of our incredible customers. 🐟 We continued to roll out our new branding on packaging and signage at our Zeeland facility. 🐟 We spent time with one another onsite enjoying food trucks, pickled herring, and milestone celebration cakes. 🐟 We partnered up with the talented chef network at Gronda to inspire over 100 recipes featuring yellowtail kingfish, raising awareness for the species and Seriola category. We’re not the best. We’re the *only* sustainably farmed yellowtail raised without antibiotics, harvested daily. 🐟🐟🐟 #Flavoringthefutureoffish

🌬🐟 PROJECT WINDFISH: In 2022 we formed a partnership with Coöperatie Zeeuwind to optimize the energy distribution of the wind turbines to our farm, and further distribute the excess energy created. We called the partnership Windfish. 🌬🐟 Following the forming of the partnership and the installation of the newly upgraded transformers, we are now able to receive our energy directly for the wind turbine in front of Kingfish Zeeland. The upgrade to the new larger wind turbine, which doubles its certified green energy output, will see all our current and future energy needs be serviced with this amazing technology. Tapping into nature using tech is one of the ways we're flavouring the future of fish, today. Enjoy the time-lapse below for a small glimpse at the view we’ve had out of our farm windows throughout the process! h/t Lex Finkers Huibert Cornelisse Wesley Farrant Christiaan De Wet #greenenergy #thefutureoffishishere

Did you know? Yellowtail amberjack farmed in recirculating aquaculture systems is rated a Green Best Choice by Seafood Watch. We're proud to be the top producers of sustainable yellowtail. Thanks for the feature. 🐟
There are many different ways to farm fish. Recirculating tanks — also called recirculating aquaculture systems or RAS — are large indoor tanks that use filtration systems to treat wastewater before returning it to the tank. This allows the water to be reused. RAS systems provide a more controlled closed system of fish production, reducing the risk of interaction and impact on the surrounding environment. Any water released from the tank can be treated prior to discharge, minimizing the spread of pollutants and disease into the environment. Many species raised in indoor tank-based RAS systems are rated green by Seafood Watch. Popular species farmed in this way include salmon, trout, sea bass, yellowtail, grouper, tilapia, and Artic char. Our friends at The Kingfish Company in the Netherlands grow yellowtail kingfish (Seriola lalandi, also called yellowtail, greater amberjack, or hiramasa) using RAS. Known for its delicate taste, this fish is a natural schooler which makes it great for RAS tank technology. It grows to about 5.5 pounds in a year. The farm is fully enclosed, helping limit negative impacts to the outside environment. The Kingfish Company also creates their own electricity for the farm using an on-site windmill, and fish waste filtered from the water becomes fertilizer. Learn more about RAS systems and other fishing and farming methods at SeafoodWatch.org.
