What does #sustainable #aviation development mean for those who make sure aircraft are flown on a daily base in a #safe #reliable and #efficient way? This was the topic of a series of workshops Elise Bavelaar and myself held at Rijnmond Air Services yesterday with a group of Sales and Services colleagues from Pratt & Whitney during their yearly away-day. We shared insights from Delft University of Technology Delft and TU Delft | Aerospace Engineering on latest developments, we explored collaborations where academic research is linked with other players to create impact like Rotterdam the Hague Innovation Airport , SAM XL and Aerospace Innovation Hub @TU Delft. Most fun and engaging was the Q&A on challenges and opportunities for those working in the frontline of aviation of the trend towards sustainable. Great questions and exchanges. Insights gained: ✈️ New and existing talent to be able to deal with new technologies to be implemented is of key importance in this transition ✈️ Engaging with (After)sales and services in development of aircraft platform delivers valuable insights! ✈️ Customer proximity is of utmost importance to remain relevant as a business, especially during transition phases such as happening in aviation Thanks so much for the opportunity to connect wiebe bosma and Edwin Sipkes, most impressed by your knowledge, experience, heritage and impeccable hangars.  

✈️Fueling the future: Destination Hydrogen Yesterday we gathered for the inspiring DutcH₂ Aviation Hub Destination Hydrogen Event. From the warm welcome by Victor Rijkaart (director Rotterdam the Hague Innovation Airport- RHIA) to the impactful closing remarks by Cornelia Bom (chairman RHIA Executive Board). The day included insightful discussions, intensive workshops, and collaborative opportunities highlighting hydrogen's potential in aviation. With government stakeholders, Robert Simons (Alderman for Port, Economy, Hospitality and Governance of Rotterdam), Saskia Bruines (Alderman for Economy of The Hague) and Meindert Stolk (Regional Minister for Economy and Innovation of the province of Zuid Holland) talking about the importance of developing hydrogen aviation in this region: Robert Simons: “Short term innovation is necessary to make hydrogen the investable energy carrier of the future” Saskia Bruines: “Collaboration is key to achieve significant steps forward” Meindert Stolk: “DutcH₂ Aviation Hub is not only of regional importance. An important goal is to connect to European Airports and stakeholders and closely work together in making innovations happen.” Following Edward Gilding’s introduction into InnovationQuarter and Aerospace Delta Agenda, aiming to support and connect (new)collaborations within the sector. Niclas Dzikus, Dr.-Ing. Seconded National Expert at the European Commission delivered a compelling keynote speech on clean transport transitions from a European perspective, reminding us of the critical role hydrogen will play in the future. The presentation of the DutcH₂ Aviation Hub by program manager Daan van Dijk showed which steps are being taken towards hydrogen aviation. Followed by workshops that explored key themes like technology development, supply chain and infrastructure, focusing on forming new projects and consortia. Participants developed over 15 initiatives to boost hydrogen adoption in aviation, creating a strong framework for future projects and partnerships. Jos van den Boom's (director RHIA) talk on the importance of International collaboration and Merian Lelieveld from Hezelburcht Grant & Funding Consultancy about funding mechanisms, offered insights into how we can collectively advance these initiatives. On top of that, Air Products and Schenk Tanktransport brought one of their newest liquid hydrogen transport trailers. Participants toured the trailer and learned about the technology that will deliver liquid hydrogen to Rotterdam The Hague Airport. Gerard Bovens heeft per 1 september zijn rol als waarnemend directeur van Rotterdam the Hague Innovation Airport (RHIA) neergelegd en keert terug naar zijn eerdere functie als voorzitter van de Raad van Toezicht van RHIA. “Het was een eer om als waarnemend directeur te mogen dienen, en ik kijk ernaar uit om in mijn rol als voorzitter voort te bouwen op de successen die we samen hebben bereikt." Nieuwe 'gezagvoerders' in de 'cockpit' van Rotterdam the Hague Innovation Airport (RHIA): Jos van den Boom, Lennard Verhoeff en Victor Rijkaart zijn aangetreden tot het nieuwe directieteam van RHIA. Dit trio, met een flinke dosis luchtvaartkennis, maakt zich op om de volgende fase van RHIA in te luiden. Zij zullen zich samen met de leden van de Executive Board, richten op het versterken en uitbreiden van de RHIA community vanuit RHIA programma’s als DutcH2 Aviation Hub, Smart Energy Airport, Fieldlab Next Aviation en Airport Technology Lab. Met een focus op het verstevigen van het inhoudelijk portfolio van luchtvaartinnovatie, de doorontwikkeling van een duurzaam innovatie-ecosysteem en met een duidelijke missie om de transitie zichtbaar te maken met Rotterdam The Hague Airport als unieke proeftuin.  Victor: “De luchtvaart staat voor een enorme transitie. Afgelopen week een mooie samenkomst gehad met de executive board van #rotterdamthehagueinnovationairport en overheden #gemeenterotterdam #gemeentedenhaag #provinciezuidholland #MinisterievanInfrastructuurenWaterstaat #InnovationQuarters waar we gezamenlijk gewerkt hebben aan het inzichtelijk maken van ieders duurzame luchtvaart ambities, hoe dit zich met elkaar verbindt en hoe dit te versterken.
