📢 Why Legal Measures for Digital Platform Work Are Crucial in Albania The rise of digital work platforms in Albania, particularly in Tirana, has created new employment opportunities in sectors such as delivery, freelancing and ride-hailing. However, this growth has also highlighted critical gaps in worker protection. In her blog, Inva Koçiaj (Çela), a PhD candidate at the University of Tirana, explores the urgent need for Albania to update its labour laws to address issues such as: 🔹 False self-employment: Many platform workers are classified as self-employed, excluding them from basic rights such as fair wages, social security and health benefits. 🔹Inadequate labour legislation: Albania's labour code and social security laws remain tailored to traditional employment, leaving platform workers unprotected. 🔹Challenges to collective action: Recent protests by Wolt delivery workers in Tirana highlighted the need for better coordination and union support for workers. 💡 Read the full blog to learn more! #PlatformWork #FutureOfWork #LabourRights #DigitalEconomy
