As part of an ongoing collaboration with Louis Vuitton on the Maison's architectural identity, OMA designed a series of trunk towers for the atrium of the newly opened NYC store on 57th Street. Shohei Shigematsu, Partner, OMA: “Our installation uses iconic Louis Vuitton trunks in a playful display that intuitively and instantly communicates the Maison’s heritage and spirit of innovation. Conceived to fit the central atrium of the temporary store, the four trunk towers are part structural and part sculptural, familiar in materiality yet foreign in shape, height, and slenderness created by their distinctly stacked forms. Together, they become a spatial amplifier that feels surreal yet rooted to Louis Vuitton’s origins."

The remodeled Gallery of the Kings at Turin’s Museo Egizio was inaugurated yesterday by the President of Italy Sergio Mattarella during the museum’s bicentenary celebration. OMA’s design reveals the original architecture, dating back to the 17th century, and allows the statues to be displayed in daylight. The completion of the Gallery of the Kings concludes OMA’s first project for Museo Egizio. A second project, the Museum’s open courtyard Piazza Egizia, is scheduled to be completed in 2025. https://lnkd.in/eG8-tCDG

OMA and WITH Architecture Studio will lead the renovation of the Perth Concert Hall, a 51-year-old heritage-listed building that will be the new home for the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO). Designed by Australian architects Jeffrey Howlett and Don Bailey and completed in 1973, the building is a prime example of Brutalist mid-century classical architecture. OMA and WITH's design will preserve the architectural integrity of the building and introduce new public spaces that tie the venue closer to the city and community. Construction is expected to begin in early 2025, with the venue reopening in early 2028. https://lnkd.in/edwFX4MH

a+u 24:08 special feature, OMA Shohei Shigematsu, is now out. 34 projects designed by OMA Partner Shohei Shigematsu and the New York office are loosely organized to explore openness of architecture in multiple ways. From creating open-ended programs to designing elements that foster openness to life outside of built boundaries, Shigematsu believes in designing both defined and undefined spaces as a way to embrace the evolution of typologies. Across the fluid framework of the issue are commissioned artworks by Ari Marcopoulos and Lok Jansen representing work in two major cities: New York and Tokyo; essays by Sarah Oppenheimer, Germane Barnes, Nick Axel; and conversations between Shigematsu and Jeffrey Inaba, Carson Chan, and Paola Antonelli dive deeper into how making architecture more open can play out in our physical and communal experience of society.

The Simone Veil Bridge, designed by OMA / Rem Koolhaas and Chris van Duijn, has opened in Bordeaux. The project consists of a platform 549 meters in length and 44 meters wide that provides a new public space for the city. The bridge abandons any interest in style, form, and structural expression in favor of a commitment to performance and an interest in future use by the people of Bordeaux. https://lnkd.in/dFPg-vWq

New images of Apollolaan 171 by Ossip van Duivenbode. Designed by OMA / David Gianotten and commissioned by the Kroonenberg Groep, Apollolaan 171 – recently nominated for the ARC24 Architectuur Award – replaces the original bank building with an open and tactile design: a transparent glass façade along the Apollolaan marks the contemporary office’s inviting character; a brick façade facing the Titiaanstraat integrates it with the neighborhood’s historical architecture.
