✨ As we look back on 2024, we are reminded of the incredible power of collective action 💪🌍. From Tbilisi to Belgrade and Amsterdam, thousands have filled the streets, demanding justice, equality, and freedom ✊. Despite growing challenges to civic space📉, we must stay vigilant and remain united in solidarity. The voices of those standing up for democracy and human rights inspire us to continue the fight for a just, inclusive world 🌏. The NHC’s mission to support change-makers has never been more vital 🔑. Our collaboration with partners in Ukraine continues as we back their fight for justice and freedom 🇺🇦. Now more than ever, we must stand together, support each other, and keep pushing forward! #Vigilance #Solidarity #CivicSpace #NHC #HumanRights More on our work in recent months: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ewNDh5iH 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eNrmuYcD 🔗https://lnkd.in/eSxQSuGH
Netherlands Helsinki Committee
Civiele en sociale organisaties
Building and securing justice across Europe
Over ons
The Netherlands Helsinki Committee is a non-governmental organisation that promotes human rights and strengthens the rule of law and democracy in all countries of Europe, including the Central Asian countries participating in the OSCE. Our work lies primarily in executing projects to strengthen legal protection and improve public policies that affect vulnerable or disadvantaged groups. We support human rights NGOs to withstand governmental pressure. Additionally, we work to improve the implementation of OSCE human dimension commitments and other international human rights agreements. We take active part in several civil society networks of human rights NGOs in Europe.

On this #InternationalHumanRightsDay, we want to put the spotlight on the work of our partners in #Ukraine, who continue to demonstrate the powerful impact of community resilience in their ongoing fight for #democracy and #humanrights. 🚨 Supporting Resilience in the Face of War: Bilozerka Center for Regional Development The Bilozerka Center for Regional Development is a pillar for citizen engagement and anti-corruption in Ukraine’s Kherson region. Following Russia’s full scale invasion of Ukraine, and in particular the devastating Kakhovka Dam collapse that caused flooding in the region, the Bilozerka Center adapted swiftly. With support from our project, the organisation secured essential equipment and maintained their mobile group’s vital work, delivering free legal and psychological aid to remote communities near the occupation line. #StandWithUkraine #HumanRights #NHC Find out more about the project and stories from our partners: https://lnkd.in/d-5hRvfR

🚨 SLAPPs shows no sign of slowing down in Europe. 📈 Today, on #InternationalAntiCorruptionDay, The Coalition against SLAPPs in Europe (CASE) and The Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation publish our 2024 SLAPPs Report: Mapping Trends and Cases. What's new? 🔴 166 cases in 2023 alone 🔴 1,049 cases in total since 2010 🔴 The majority of cases relate to corruption or environmental issues 🔴 Businesses and politicians are the biggest legal bullies 🔴 Journalists, in their independent capacity, are worst hit 🔴 The most SLAPPs were filed in Italy, Romania, Serbia and Turkey 🔴 SLAPPs were recorded for the first time in several European countries SLAPPs pose a grave threat to democracy and freedom of expression. With this report we call on policymakers, civil society, and media organisations to push for robust implementation of anti-SLAPP measures across Europe. Without stronger protections, public participation will continue to be eroded by those seeking to silence dissent.
