An ESRS Framework for non-listed SMEs and a European simplification package to streamline reporting requirements. Sustainability reporting trends for 2025 are coming at us. Looking at the year ahead, Michel Scholte recently highlighted regulatory developments in the reporting landscape. Here is what your company needs to keep an eye on in the new year: 🔸 The VSME ESRS Framework: Designed for non-listed SMEs, this framework protects against requests from larger companies required to report on their impact. 🔸The Omnibus Directive: The Omnibus Simplification Package aims to streamline regulatory requirements, combining the CSRD with the EU taxonomy and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). It is expected to be published on 26 February 2025. However, according to the advice from the recent EFRAG Conference, companies should keep focusing on implementing the CSRD. 🔸Interoperability of standards: To ensure consistency and comparability, there will be a greater focus on linking ESRS to global frameworks like ISSB. 🔸Countries must step up: Countries, including the Netherlands, must accelerate CSRD implementation as companies gear up to comply. The directive is leading the way. 🔸Political Pushback: German ministries are pushing for a significant reduction of CSRD reporting requirements and postponing the CSRD deadline by two years for companies that have to report over the 2025 financial year or later It's clear: the regulatory landscape is evolving rapidly. Preparation, alignment, and adaptability will be key. Want to learn all about CSRD and future developments? We offer a discount (code: csrd2024) for our CSRD IN ONE DAY on 22 January 2025. How can you know the real impact of your impact investing? As part of their 2023 Impact Report, ABN AMRO Sustainable Impact Fund invested in 14 companies. We valued the impact in Euros, with €325M in total societal impact created👏👏 We calculated the impacts using the True Price Method and internationally accepted Impacted-Weighted Accounts Framework (IWAF) (by our sister organisations True Price and Impact Economy Foundation). While impact measurement is a new discipline compared to financial accounting, we believe innovative business models can help decarbonize the economy. Impact measurement is a tool for investors to select impactful companies while maximising both financial returns and the impact potential of their portfolios. We developed software to help investors do exactly that. Not CSRD mandatory, yet reporting for over a decade: Lessons and Tools from the ‘Highlights of CSRD DAY’ webinar We dived into the ‘how’ of CSRD reporting and looked forward to key reporting trends in 2025 in the webinar ‘Highlights of CSRD DAY’. While key takeaways of the plenary and thematic sessions from CSRD DAY underscored the urgency and opportunity of the CSRD, the real standout moments came from best practices and tools shared. 📣 Best Practices from CSRD Award Winner Schijvens Jeske van Korven, CSR Manager from Schijvens Corporate Fashion Hilvarenbeek B.V. Fashion, the first-ever CSRD Awards winner, shared valuable lessons from their sustainability journey: 🔸 Proactive Approach: Although not mandatory to report under CSRD, Schijvens has been voluntarily reporting for over a decade, focusing on key high-risk supply chain topics like living wages and gender equality. 🔸On-the-Ground Engagement: By personally visiting production facilities, Schijvens identified and addressed challenges, including advancing gender equality in Pakistan. 🔸Transparency & Partnerships: Schijvens emphasised the importance of reliable data collection and open communication, even on difficult topics like child labour, to foster trust and accountability.

You know your company needs to look beyond its impact on climate in its transition planning. But where to start? The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) pointed out this essential topic in a recent webinar. Businesses need to include biodiversity and nature-related risks. Their Nature Transition Plan offers practical frameworks for corporates and financial institutions to tackle these challenges. Key Takeaways: Biodiversity & nature matter. Addressing natural capital is complex but crucial. Companies are waking up to the need to act but often lack a clear roadmap. TNFD guidance bridges this gap, providing structured metrics and actionable approaches. Transition planning for nature is holistic. Unlike climate transition plans, nature transition plans integrate unique aspects like engagement at landscape, seascape, or river-basin levels. Effective transition plans must also incorporate input from local communities and stakeholders. At Impact Institute, we champion a broader perspective on environmental impact. While climate mitigation is critical, it is one piece of the puzzle. Understanding how companies influence biodiversity, ecosystems, and other natural resources is vital for building a nature-positive future.
