The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), IDH and JDE Peet's, in collaboration with local and international partners, officially launched the Database System for Forest and Coffee Growing Areas. This database system marks a critical milestone for Vietnam’s coffee industry for several reasons : ➡ It enhances transparency, traceability, and sustainability across the coffee supply chain. ➡  It is a foundation for scaling up to other agricultural commodities such as rubber, pepper, and cocoa. ➡ It equips businesses, farmers, and local authorities with the tools needed to meet the traceability requirements of the EUDR. ➡ It will also bring significant benefits to the coffee sector and actively contribute to the fight against deforestation and climate change. Through this joint effort, Vietnam’s coffee sector is well-positioned to achieve international sustainability standards while delivering long-term environmental and economic benefits. 🤝Join us in developing and refining this system to ensure its lasting impact and relevance. 📰Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/eGptgPwg #Sustainability #CoffeeIndustry #EUDR #Traceability #GreenGrowth #Vietnam #IDH #PublicPrivatePartnership *** Chi Tran| Stephanie Raymond| Kaj van de Vorstenbosch | Mara Grimminger

  • 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠? This question took centre stage during a side event organised by IDH at the 13th UN Business and Human Rights Forum in Geneva. Speakers delivered a powerful and consistent message: gender inclusion is not just the right thing to do—it’s smart business. H.E. Paul Bekkers, Ambassador of the Netherlands to the UN, opened the session by framing gender equality as a clear economic necessity and emphasising the critical role of men as change agents. Echoing this call, H.E. Arindam Bagchi, Ambassador of India to the UN, challenged everyone to move beyond seeing women as beneficiaries and instead embrace women-led development as a transformative pathway to progress. A standout moment came when Manisha Majumdar of IDH presented the Return on Investment numbers of the 𝘞𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯’s 𝘚𝘢𝘧𝘦𝘵𝘺 𝘈𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳 Fund, which aims to enhance the safety of women workers in tea estates in India. These numbers showcased the tangible economic benefits of integrating gender in responsible sourcing, from increased productivity to worker retention. Throughout the session, one clear theme emerged: collaboration is essential. Policy alignment, corporate commitment, and collective action are key to addressing discriminatory social norms and advancing gender equality in meaningful and lasting ways. Anouk Heilen, Head of Social Sustainability at Unilever, shared insights from Unilever's living wage commitments, illustrating how systemic change requires collaboration across sectors. Building on this, Tulika B., Human Rights Expert, presented global examples of integrating gender considerations into Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) frameworks and addressing gender-based violence. A heartfelt thank you to all of our inspiring speakers for sharing their insights and leadership. Together, we can unlock the power of gender inclusion and drive sustainable change. #GenderEquality #ResponsibleSourcing #BusinessAndHumanRights #BHRForum Permanent Representation of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the UN, WTO in Geneva

Better jobs are a main driver for achieving inclusive growth and sustainable development. Jobs that ensure dignity, equity, and improved living conditions are key to transforming industries, communities, and economies. In Mavoko, Kenya, under our INSTEP program, we’re working with VF Corporation, Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP), and SOKO Community Trust – Kujuwa Initiative on a transformative water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) initiative. While working directly with textile & apparel factory workers in Athi River and their families, the project will also extend its impact to residents in low-income neighboring areas. By enhancing water and sanitation services, promoting menstrual hygiene management (MHM), addressing period stigma and driving behavioral change, the initiative takes a holistic approach to improving workplace conditions and community well-being. "Together, we are addressing critical challenges while fostering gender equity and creating pathways for sustainable development in Kenya’s garment industry," says Jenny Löfbom, Country Director, IDH Kenya.
