How much does it cost to train a doctor? 🥼 This article, from Het Financieele Dagblad (written in Dutch) touches on an important issue. Does it benefit society to train more doctors than are needed? And who should pay for this? For years, the Dutch Healthcare Authority (Nederlandse Zorgautoriteit) have been trying to answer a seemingly simple question: what does it cost to train a doctor or medical specialist? All around the world, healthcare providers grapple with this question, or similar ones, in the process of dividing resources amongst their hospitals, initiatives, departments, and staff. A lack of transparency leads to more difficult conversations and "best-guess" scenarios. Tools like CostPerform are used to bring answers to complex questions like this every day.
