Last week, Our CEO, Dr. Orna Harel, had the honor of being invited to speak at the 2024 IAAS-IOLR Aquatic Sciences Conference, hosted at the stunning BGU Campus in Eilat. It was an incredible opportunity to address a diverse audience of industry professionals, researchers, and students about one of the most pressing challenges of our time: building a sustainable seafood system that can feed a growing global population while minimizing resource use and emissions. During the talk, Orna emphasized the importance of a multi-faceted approach. Advancing aquaculture and cultivated seafood requires the integration of cutting-edge technologies, heightened public awareness, and supportive government policies. Only by combining these elements can impactful and lasting solutions for a sustainable future be developed. Orna also shared insights into the current state of the cultivated seafood sector, the opportunities that lie ahead, and how Sea2Cell is working to bring these ideas to life. The conference underscored the critical role of collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers. Now is the time to turn vision into action and drive meaningful change for a sustainable tomorrow. Amid growing concerns over the health and future of our oceans Sea2cell embraces the challenge of providing the world with sustainable and safe cell-cultivated “blue food” that will be as good as traditional seafood in taste, culinary functionality, and nutritional value. As an essential first step toward achieving this mission, our technology aims at creating proprietary highly efficient cell lines for the cultivated fish industry. Our core founding team includes seasoned managers with over two decades of experience in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries and a proven track record in managing and leading multidisciplinary R&D teams, as well as world renowned experts in fish biology and in the seafood market. Together the team laid the foundations for a highly innovative force in cultivated fish industry. The company started operating in 2021 under the management of Dr. Orna Harel (CEO), and is funded by the Fresh Start FoodTech Incubator, led by the international AgriFood VC Finistere Ventures, Tnuva (Israel’s largest food manufacturer), OurCrowd's investments' platform and Tempo (Leading beverage company).
