Water stress is a significant factor leading to yield loss in peanut cultivation, as with any crop. While melatonin seed priming has been widely used to improve stress tolerance in various crops, its application in peanuts remains unexplored. In this article, researchers explored how seed priming with melatonin affects the growth, development, and drought tolerance of two peanut cultivars using our PlantArray system and got great results within 50 days instead of 160!! (The growing cycle of peanuts) 🥜 🥜 When the #PlantArray system scans hundreds of times a day for the physiological characteristics of each plant in the array (such as VPD, biomass, transpiration), conclusions can be drawn efficiently without the need to wait for a complete peanut growing cycle. The articles keep arriving, so we keep publishing! 📰 👩💻 As drought affects both agricultural productivity and ecological stability, this article highlights the potential of developing an ideal phenotyping tool to continuously monitor a plant's physiological profile in response to shifting environmental conditions. Our #PlantArray system is featured multiple times in the article as an automated drought phenotyping platform that continuously measures the plants' response to the environment. One of its most important features is the ability to maintain the same drought stress level for all plants, taking into account each plant's unique water-loss behavior, and precisely measuring the plants' physiological responses With over 60 academic articles referencing the system and installations at leading scientific institutions such as Wageningen University & Research & University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, the Danforth Center, and many more, PlantArray is at the forefront of innovation in plant phenotyping. We are excited to join our partners at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to celebrate the grand opening of the new Plant Biology Innovation Greenhouse (PBIG), which will support CABBI research! This custom greenhouse in the University of Illinois Research Park features cutting-edge capabilities supporting plant and microbial science researchers on campus. It will allow CABBI researchers to monitor the growth and water use of next-generation #bioenergy crops — accelerating our development of crops that are more productive, sustainable, and resilient to #climate extremes as part of our work to provide feedstocks for aviation fuel and other bioproducts. It also features tracer-gas technology that can track how crops sequester #carbon and use nutrients in the soil. The energy-efficient facility also features a solar array funded by generous support from the Student Sustainability Committee at Illinois! The project was a team effort led by the Provost's Office, Department of Plant Biology, Liberal Arts & Sciences at Illinois, University of Illinois College of ACES, School of Integrative Biology, University of Illinois, and the Department of Crop Sciences. We are grateful to Provost John Coleman and Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Susan Martinis for their support, as well as Research Park Director Laura Appenzeller. CABBI Director Andrew Leakey said the scientific discoveries, technological innovations and training opportunities that come out of the greenhouse will drive positive change for the state of Illinois and our environment!

🥜 New article - Boosting Peanut Crop Resilience Through Water Deficit Priming 🥜 Using our #PlantArray system, the researchers demonstrated that water deficit priming through regulated deficit irrigation improves water-use efficiency in peanut plants and enhances stress acclimation across generations. In a study on two peanut genotypes (COC-041 and NMVC), offspring from primed plants displayed: ✅ Faster germination and seedling growth ✅ Enhanced water-use efficiency under stress ✅ Higher dry biomass production per unit of water The PlantArray is a high-throughput phenotyping platform designed to enhance water-use efficiency research. It provides real-time, precise measurements of whole-plant water uptake, transpiration, and other crucial physiological traits, enabling researchers to assess plant responses to water stress and identify drought-tolerant genotypes. Happy to share a new scientific article published by one of our dearest friends, Amir Mayo, MSc👨💻 🌱 This study addresses the pressing challenge of climate change, particularly the increasing severity of drought conditions, which threaten global food security and agricultural sustainability. To tackle this issue, researchers integrated the #PlantArray system, an advanced tool that precisely measures key whole-plant #physiological traits such as transpiration rate, canopy stomatal conductance (Gs canopy), and growth rate- with high spatiotemporal resolution. By combining PlantArray's capabilities with photosynthesis measurements, the study provides a more comprehensive understanding of #plant responses to water scarcity. Additionally, a remote sensing approach is used to overcome the limitations of single-leaf #photosynthesis measurements, enabling rapid scanning of multiple plant samples over time. This approach offers valuable insights into the drought stress responses of S. lycopersicum (tomato) lines, paving the way for innovations in developing drought-resilient #crops.
