In a previous post, we shared insights from a meeting with Israeli AI startups supported by Google Startup Labs. This wasn’t just a courtesy gathering—it was with the intention to deep dive into how emerging technologies can accelerate Denmark's green transition and help us achieve our ambitious GHG emission reduction targets. One startup that stood out was Momentick - Emissions Intelligence. Their cutting-edge technology is already revolutionizing the way industries monitor and mitigate methane emissions. Using real-time satellite data, their solution enables companies to detect and respond to emissions swiftly, providing unparalleled visibility and control. Why does this matter? Methane is a potent greenhouse gas with a warming potential significantly higher than CO2 over a 20-year period. This makes methane reduction a critical focus for achieving Denmark’s climate goals, particularly in the energy sector. The image below showcases a recent methane emission detected at a refinery plant in Denmark. With Momentick’s zero-integration solution, Danish energy companies can take proactive, data-driven steps toward sustainability while enhancing their operational efficiency. This collaboration underscores the incredible potential of bridging Israeli innovation with Danish climate ambitions 🌍✨ Yam Meirovitz Daniel Kashmir Lior Noy Udi Amrani Seda Kayrak Bilgen

Oil and gas assets in remote desert areas are prone to severe methane leaks. The extreme temperature changes, harsh radiation, and winds take their toll on aging infrastructure. This gas processing plant in Algeria experienced at least 4 major leaks during a short 7 month period this year. Our satellite-based technology was able to autonomously monitor, detect, and quantify the leaks, pinpointing precise sources within the site. For operators with unmanned assets across vast regions, this invaluable data drives swift, targeted action and saves a lot of money. #GHG #emissions #artificialintelligence #innovation #technology #sustainability #AI #oilandgas #hydrocarbons #climatechange #ESG

We’ve been monitoring 8 oil and gas assets in Turkmenistan - The amount of methane emissions is startling. Over the course of 40 months we detected no less than 108 major leak and flaring events! By working with satellite-based intelligence tools, regulators and operators can focus LDAR teams and resources where they will have the most impact. In this case, focusing on 3 sites that account for over 74% of emission events, and skipping 2 sites that exhibited no emissions. The Permian and Appalachian basins are the most productive oil and gas producing basins in the US. In terms of wellheads and infrastructure they are the most prolific, too. It is therefore understandable, that despite a relatively lower Methane Loss Rate, than the Uinta basin for example, the overall methane emissions per annum are much higher - there are simply more potential points of failure. In Uinta, Methane Loss Rates are the highest in the nation; Why is that? It is a more mature basin, with lower production which may mean significantly aged infrastructure and low investment in maintenance and monitoring. The monitoring challenge in both cases is extremely hard for producers. Installing fixed ground sensors everywhere is simply not feasible, and deploying surveying teams is inefficient and costly. This is where new developments in satellite-based emissions monitoring and detection are changing the game. With flybys three or more times a week on every single wellhead and high-resolution source point detection, LDAR teams can be assigned efficiently for surgical remediation. Why I'm talking to oil & gas companies at the world's biggest climate conference - and why it matters. As I reflect on my first visit to COP, I was struck by an unexpected realization. Attending the world's largest climate change conference with the aim of building relationships with oil and gas companies seemed counterintuitive at first. However, the trip has reinforced for me the critical importance of emissions intelligence in our global transition to clean energy. Key Market Drivers: 1️⃣ The Transition Takes Time While the shift to clean energy is accelerating, it's a gradual process. During this transition, it's crucial to help the oil and gas industry reduce their emissions. 2️⃣ Methane Matters Methane is 80 times more potent than CO2 as a greenhouse gas. Any effort to reduce planned and unplanned methane emissions significantly impacts our ability to mitigate climate change. 3️⃣ Comprehensive Monitoring is Key No single solution for monitoring methane provides a complete picture. A combination of ground, flight, and satellite monitoring is essential. 4️⃣ Industry Challenges and Our Role The OGMP standard is intentionally rigorous, requiring companies to use multiple technologies. As suppliers, it's our responsibility to support the O&G sector through this transition, not just push them into it. 5️⃣ Global Regulatory Landscape - Japan is preparing to follow the US and Europe with new regulations. Sompo, the giant Japanese Insurance company announced a partnership with Momentick to prepare for new risk reduction policies and use cases. - Australia is developing a strategy for methane mitigation. 6️⃣ The Future of US Methane Regulations Surprisingly, many believe that even the Trump administration might not discontinue recent US methane regulations. Reasons include: - The regulations are part of the IRA, which has been financially beneficial to red states. - O&G CEOs, including Exxon's, have urged against changing the regulations. - Constant regulatory changes create uncertainty for the industry. - Cutting methane emissions increases product value, benefiting companies. At Momentick - Emissions Intelligence , I'm excited to help lead our strategy in accelerating and supporting this crucial aspect of the energy transition. My role in shaping Momentick's approach to emissions intelligence is not just a professional commitment, but a personal passion for driving meaningful impact in mitigating climate change. And last but not least, thanks to Daniel Kashmir and Yam Meirovitz, my partners in crime on a successful COP29 conference. Work is not hard when you're around great people. #COP29 #EmissionsIntelligence #ClimateAction #Momentick
