We had the privilege of hosting an inspiring Innovation Day for Clalit Health Services’s Hospital Deputy Directors and the Medical Division Forum. The event brought together innovators and healthcare professionals for a day of meaningful discussions and groundbreaking ideas. Dr. Avinoam Pirogovsky and Reut Ohana kicked off the day with valuable leadership insights, sharing how innovation is driving change at Clalit. As the day unfolded, Shachaf Snir shared his expertise on fostering entrepreneurship in healthcare, and Dr. Stav Devons-Sberro explored the exciting role of AI in transforming the industry. The forum also featured personal stories of working with innovation, with Dr. Guy Topaz, Dr. Shiri Pergamentzev (Karpol), and Dr. Rachel Hefetz giving us a closer look at their journeys and the impact innovation has on their work. Rotem Greenberg inspired us with the genomic revolution and advancements, and Asaf Yahav shared his insights on the future of paperless hospitals. We’re thrilled to announce the winners of the ROMAH Program’s Award for Excellence in Research! This year, the honor goes to: Dr. Ismail Masalha, Dr. Nitzan Sagie, Dr. Reem Zabat, Noa Ben Tzuk, Dr. Uri Obolski, Dr. Ofir Cohen and Prof. Lior Nesher. Their groundbreaking project, Developing a Decision-Support System for Early Detection of Sepsis in Cancer Patients, stood out as the outstanding research for 2023-2024. A joint committee from Clalit’s Innovation, Community, Hospital, and Planning & Strategy divisions selected this exceptional work. The team’s innovative research uses advanced ML to tackle the complex challenge of sepsis in cancer patients. Their model detected sepsis risk long before clinical symptoms appeared, outperforming comparable systems. This early detection is critical for cancer patients, who are especially vulnerable due to immunosuppression. By enabling timely interventions, this research has the potential to reduce mortality and shorten ICU stays significantly. Beyond the innovation, the study’s practical implications are game-changing. Its findings pave the way for real-world applications in patient care, ensuring faster and more effective responses in critical situations. This week, for our Sunday Innovation Forum, we decided to try something a little different and commemorate Employee Wellness Day! The Clalit Innovation kitchen transformed into a mini CrossFit gym. Equipment was neatly laid out by weight, and a vibrant health table was prepared, featuring yogurt, granola, and fresh fruit. At first, employees seemed hesitant after all, weights and kettlebells aren't exactly common sights in an office filled with data analysts, financial experts, innovation leaders, business developers, and physicians. But within minutes, everyone warmed up, and the energy of a great workout took over. There’s nothing quite like the joy and camaraderie of group exercise. Sometimes, innovation comes in the form of small surprises like this, boosting morale and inspiring new ideas. After a year in action, Clalit Health Services’s innovative digital system is proving its efficiency in identifying individuals at high risk for trauma, depression, and anxiety- particularly those who have not independently sought treatment. This proactive solution provides immediate feedback, access to self-help resources, and, in high-risk cases, direct outreach by Clalit’s dedicated mental health expert team. Established last year, this specialized solution offers personalized support, including initial assistance and referrals for ongoing care, whether in-person or by phone. To ensure holistic care, findings from the system are shared with family physicians.
