We're approaching that "happy" time of the year again, although sometimes, celebrations can take a stressful turn if we can't navigate disagreements 🎄 The holidays are a time for joy, connection, and celebration, but they can also bring differing opinions and tense conversations—especially during Christmas gatherings with family or friends. So, how can we manage disagreements and avoid confrontation while keeping the festive spirit alive? 1️⃣ Choose Connection Over Correction Not every disagreement needs to be “won.” Sometimes, it’s better to let small things slide. “That’s an interesting take—I hadn’t thought of it that way.” This keeps the conversation light and respectful. 2️⃣ Redirect With Grace If a conversation starts getting heated, shift gears with a neutral topic. “Let’s save that for another time—have you tried Aunt Sue’s pie yet? It’s incredible!” 3️⃣ Lead With Empathy Recognize emotions behind opinions. “I see this topic matters to you. I appreciate hearing your perspective.” This shows respect without needing to agree. 4️⃣ Know When to Step Away Sometimes the best way to manage disagreement is to avoid it altogether. A quick pause can help. “I’m going to grab some fresh air. Let’s catch up on something fun when I’m back!” The holidays are about creating memories, not winning debates. Focus on what truly matters: laughter, shared moments, and the people around you. How do you keep the peace during festive gatherings? Share your tips below! 🎄 #Christmascelebrations #connections #communication #keepthejoy Devon Partnership NHS Trust

  • As Christmas draws near, it’s important to acknowledge that this time of year can be hard for many of us. The festive season often brings pressures—to be cheerful, to connect, to keep up with everything—and for those feeling alone or managing mental health challenges, it can be especially tough. At Workways Devon Partnership NHS Trust, we support people in navigating these challenges through work, wellbeing, and community. But the truth is, these are things we all work on—clients, colleagues, friends, and family. Setting boundaries is one way we can take care of ourselves during busy or difficult times, allowing space for rest, reflection, and connection. Whether you’re spending this season with loved ones or taking some much-needed time for yourself, it’s okay to approach it in your own way. Kindness, to ourselves and others, can make all the difference. On a lighter note, I’ve been reflecting on the magical snow day in Exeter—the crunch of the snow beneath my feet and the sparkle of the trees in the winter light. That peaceful, quiet beauty is something I’ll keep in my heart this season. Here’s to finishing the year with balance, understanding, and care—for ourselves and for each other. #Boundaries #MentalHealthSupport #Workways #IPS #FestiveSeason

  • Focus on What You Can Control: Reentering Competitive Employment Reentering the workforce after a break or transition can feel overwhelming, especially when the job market is competitive. The truth is, you can't control every factor—like the job market trends or how quickly recruiters respond—but you can focus on what’s within your power. Here are five areas to prioritize: Sharpen Your Skills Take stock of what the industry demands and where you can grow. Upskilling through online courses, certifications, or even volunteering in relevant roles can demonstrate your initiative and value. Build Your Personal Brand Update your LinkedIn profile, fine-tune your résumé, and create content that showcases your expertise. Share industry insights, participate in discussions, and let your professional network know you're open to opportunities. Network Strategically Reach out to former colleagues, mentors, and peers. Attend industry events—online or in person—and don't hesitate to ask for informational interviews. Remember, most opportunities come from connections. Prepare and Practice Hone your interview skills and create a portfolio of accomplishments. Practice answering questions about career gaps confidently and authentically. Preparation builds confidence. Maintain a Growth Mindset The process can be challenging, but focusing on progress rather than perfection can keep you motivated. Every step—no matter how small—brings you closer to your goal. By channeling your energy into what you can control, you’ll not only improve your chances of success but also boost your confidence along the way. What strategies have worked for you when navigating the job market? Let’s share ideas and support each other in the comments! #JobSearch #CareerGrowth #PersonalDevelopment Devon Partnership NHS Trust

  • Amazing to see Individual Placement and Support (IPS) services expanding further. This model has already helped so many people with mental health challenges find meaningful work and it’s one we proudly use at Workways, Devon Partnership NHS Trust Did you know nearly 90% of people with mental health challenges want to work, but only 8% actually do? It’s a stark reminder of how important services like IPS are. This expansion means even more people will get the support they need to achieve their goals—fantastic news! #MentalHealth #EmploymentSupport #IPS #Workways

Exciting developments in employment support for vulnerable individuals! Our IPS Grow Director Niall O'Reilly and fellow Social Finance Director of Government and Enterprise Nadine Smith have written an article on the recent developments in employment support for vulnerable individuals. The expansion of IPS services is a game changer, helping over 40,000 people find and stay in work last year alone. With the government's commitment to add 8,500 new mental health staff and reach 140,000 more people by 2028-29, we’re optimistic about the future. As Matt Tapp (an Employment Specialist from Enable) highlights, focusing on personal motivation rather than diagnosis is key to success. 🌟 Let’s ensure this personalised support reaches those who need it most! Celebrating Success and Strengthening Connections In the hustle and bustle of achieving our goals, it’s easy to focus solely on tasks and deadlines. But moments of celebration and connection with colleagues are just as important. Yesterday, Workways, Mindful Employer, and Job Retention, had the privilege of spending quality time together, stepping away from the usual work environment to celebrate our achievements and simply enjoy each other's company. These moments of camaraderie remind us that behind every project and milestone are the people who make it all possible. Taking time to celebrate together strengthens bonds, fosters trust, and recharges our collective energy to tackle new challenges. It’s a reminder that success isn’t just about results—it’s about the journey and the relationships we build along the way. To everyone out there, I encourage you to make time for your teams—whether it’s a small gathering, a shared meal, or just a coffee break. It makes a world of difference. #Teamwork #Collaboration #ChristmasCelebrations #CelebratingSuccess #QualityTime Devon Partnership NHS Trust
