Swire Projects has managed the delivery of four complete sets of wind turbines totaling 34,000 cubic meters from Dafeng, China to Vung An, Vietnam. The #heavylift specialist’s 19,600-deadweight-ton Pacific Integrity #multipurpose vessel, equipped with a pair of 240-ton-capacity cranes, was deployed to transport a range of pieces including towers, nacelles, hubs, blades and accessories for the 40-MW Hai Anh onshore #windfarm in Vietnam’s central Quang Tri Province. Hai Anh is being built on an 855-acre plot and will deploy eight of Electric Wind Power’s WH5.25-172 turbines, which boast the largest wind turbine diameter in Vietnam. Every component loaded onto the Pacific Integrity was “securely arranged and handled with precision,” Swire Projects said, with the blades stacked in four tiers and the towers in two. The remaining cargo were stored safely in the hold. “This shipment not only highlights Swire Projects’ expertise in handling renewable energy equipment but also reinforces our ongoing commitment to fostering global sustainability efforts,” the company said. “As Vietnam intensifies its focus on renewable energy development, wind power is poised for significant growth, creating vast opportunities within the green energy market.” ⭐ Swire Projects is an exhibitor at Breakbulk Europe. deugro has successfully masterminded a complex maritime operation to transport an oversized metering skid from Jebel Ali Free Zone to Drydocks World in Dubai. The metering skid – a huge steel-framed system of instruments designed to measure and evaluate oil and gas flow – was too bulky to be carried overland, deugro said. To address this challenge, the #projectforwarder opted to ship the unit using an anchor handling tugboat. The skid was transported by water and eventually offloaded at the Drydocks World marine and offshore services facility by means of a floating crane. A tandem-lift operation using 800-ton and 700-ton cranes supplied by Al Faris Group was deployed to ensure the cargo was handled safely and efficiently. “With our team's expertise and unwavering commitment to safety, this daring feat was accomplished seamlessly and on time,” deugro said. 💠 deugro and Al Faris will be exhibiting at Breakbulk Middle East 2025 on Feb. 10-11 in Dubai. Is your company ready to participate in the region's largest event for breakbulk and project cargo? Full details in the comments section below. #bbme2025 #breakbulkmiddleeast #breakbulk

⭐Offshore foundation maker Sif Group has successfully manufactured the first #monopile at its expanded production facilities at Maasvlakte II in Rotterdam. The #foundation piece is the first of 54 that are being made for Equinor’s Empire Wind I project off the U.S. East Coast. Production of the remaining monopiles is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2025. Sif is also manufacturing transition pieces for the 810-MW offshore New York project at its other Dutch facility at Roermond. Sif reached FID on the new US$328 million facility at Maasvlakte II – the world’s largest monopile production plant – in February 2023. Empire Offshore Wind contributed 50 million euros in advance factory payments, becoming the project’s first client. A spokesperson told Breakbulk that Sif had additional orders lined up for the Baltyk II and III offshore wind projects in Poland, the East Anglia TWO wind farm off the UK’s east coast and the Ecowende and Oranjewind projects, both offshore Netherlands. The Maasvlakte II plant is expected to be running at full capacity from 2026, the spokesperson said. “We will now focus on getting the facilities up-to-speed to manufacture approximately 200 monopiles per year,” said Fred Van Beers, CEO of Sif Holding, in a separate statement. “It makes me proud to see that the quality of the first product is very good, and that measurement is widely within tolerances. The new facilities enhance Sif’s position as market leader in offshore wind energy foundations and will contribute largely to the energy transition from fossil to clean energies.” According to Sif, the size of monopiles has increased “drastically” in recent years. A “reference” foundation measures 120 meters in length and 11 meters in diameter and weighs about 2,500 tons. “From a market study, we learned that 80% of future monopiles will be in the 9-to-11-meter diameter range. This mainly relates to monopiles for Europe (in the North Sea and Baltic Sea) and on the U.S. East Coast,” the spokesperson said. #breakbulk #breakbulkeurope #bbeu2025 #offshorewind

Bechtel Corporation has won a contract to lead the design and construction of a 25-MW solar plant at Rio Tinto’s Kennecott copper mine near Salt Lake City in the U.S. state of Utah. 🌄 ☀️ "Copperton Phase 2 Solar" will be installed on a 210-acre plot next to an existing 5-MW solar plant at Kennecott, one of the world’s largest open-pit #copper mines. Construction is expected to be completed in 2025. The project calls for the installation of 71,000 highly efficient bifacial solar modules, a double-sided panel designed to absorb energy from both its front and rear sides. Together, the two #solar plants will reduce Kennecott’s Scope 2 emissions by about 6%, or 21,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year. “Additionally, Bechtel will leverage its proprietary and award-winning digital delivery methods to design, construct and commission the facility, incorporating autonomous technologies to optimize project delivery,” the U.S.-based engineering, construction and project management company said in a statement. Anglo-Australian mining firm Rio Tinto generates around 72% of its power from #renewables. The company said it was currently focused on replacing electricity from gas and #coal with solar, #wind and other clean energy sources as it targets #netzero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. “Expanding our solar farm is the latest step in our journey to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Nathan Foster, managing director of Rio Tinto Kennecott. “Together with other measures we’ve taken, such as closing a coal-fired power plant, deploying battery electric vehicles underground, and our recent transition to renewable diesel, we have reduced our emissions by millions of tons over the past few years. We’re demonstrating every day that sustainable practices and resource production can go hand-in-hand to benefit our company as well as our community.” Scott Austin, general manager of renewables and clean power at Bechtel, said the project showed “climate commitments in action.” 💠Bechtel and Rio Tinto are members of the Breakbulk Global Shipper Network. The next in-person meet-up for BGSN members will be at Breakbulk Middle East 2025 on Feb. 10-11 in Dubai. Interested in finding out how the BGSN can benefit your company? DEME Group has been awarded a contract for the construction of a new #offshorewind terminal at the Port of Cuxhaven in northern Germany. Alongside consortium partners Depenbrock Bau GmbH & Co. KG and TAGU, DEME will carry out all dredging and land reclamation works for the new terminal, which will be operated by seaport operator Niedersachsen Ports GmbH & Co. KG. The project will begin in early 2025 and take three-and-a-half years to complete. Among the equipment deployed to reclaim an expected total volume of more than three million square meters will be two trailing suction hopper dredgers, a backhoe dredger and several barges, DEME said. Once built, the facility will comprise three berths, 1,250 meters of quay wall for heavy loads and a 38-hectare storage area. “Construction of the expanded terminal requires an innovative technical approach,” said Lutz Droege, area manager for Germany at DEME. “The project includes the installation of combi-walls and land reclamation in a dynamic estuarine environment, meeting the complex engineering requirements tailored to a heavy load terminal and demanding geotechnical conditions.” Cuxhaven on the North Sea coast is a major #offshore hub and billed as Europe’s largest offshore port. The facility handles about 4,500 #windturbine components every year. According to DEME, the new terminal will play a key role in the North Sea region’s #energytransition and the German government’s wind energy expansion targets. DEME, which specializes in offshore energy, environmental remediation, #dredging and marine infrastructure, previously worked on the construction of the adjacent berths 4 and 8. The contractor also used Cuxhaven as its base port during the construction of the Borkum Riffgrund 2 offshore wind farm. #breakbulk #portsandterminals #breakbulkeurope #bbeu2025 ⭐ DEME is a member of the Breakbulk Global Shipper Network.
