A key recommendation of the devo white paper is for strategic authorities to become more central to the shaping and securing of world class research relevant to the priorities of their communities, businesses and agencies. Across Yorkshire and the Humber we've been building that deeper engagement between Universities and Civic Authorities for some years. Some of its fruits are here 👇🏽 Peter O'Brien Kayleigh R. Really important Summit in Leeds today on Good Work, Health and Skills across Yorkshire and Humber. It was great to hear from place-based leaders and, more importantly, from citizens affected by economic inactivity who need our support Yorkshire and the Humber faces a significant challenge, with the third lowest employment rate in England and 2.8 million people out of work due to long-term sickness. However, it is also perfectly positioned to pilot innovative, devolved solutions that address health and economic disparities. Exciting times for the region with the launch of both the long-term sick inactivity trailblazers and NHS Health and Growth Accelerator initiatives. Our YHealth for Growth report in partnership with Yorkshire Universities and the NHS Confederation, highlighted how health and work are intrinsically linked (https://lnkd.in/ee8BVhqy) so we’re proud to champion the work taking place across the region and at Health Innovation Yorkshire & Humber we have been convening partners and their best practise initiatives. (https://lnkd.in/eHMpV_aE) By working together across sectors, we can build pathways to meaningful change and create opportunities for everyone to access good work. Very timely article. In my opinion it adds weight to the growing case for the HE sector to work collaboratively together, and with national, regional and local policymakers, to widen and deepen knowledge and understanding of 'place' and its diverse and contingent factors.
