About us

Yipiyap was established in September 2012 to harness the talents of high achieving gap year students - their academic ability, interpersonal skills, enthusiasm and aspirations - and give them the opportunity to support primary and secondary pupils who require extra help in Maths, English and Science. yipiyap is built on the ethos that children often benefit hugely from a relatively small amount of individual attention and that lack of confidence is often the basis for underachievement. The challenge for teachers is to provide this individual attention to every pupil while dealing with all the necessary administrative calls on their time. Often, despite every effort on the part of teaching staff, some children do not progress at the expected rate in class and whilst external private tuition is effective, it is simply not available to all. yipiyap seeks to address this imbalance. The support is delivered via in-school tuition during the school day, either by extractions or by working with teachers to support individuals withing the class - giving a high level of personalised help and continually boosting confidence. Tutors can also deliver alternative provision, Saturday schools, holiday exam revision, Y6 transition events and any other area in which a school needs additional subject support.

Happy International Migrants Day! Having so many friends who have moved to the UK, I am SO thankful that my life is made richer by a more colourful palate of friends and their experiences! I have shared endless ‘maté’ and laughs with my Argentinian friends, danced to Stromae with my French friends, and have been taught all about the beautiful hidden villages of Spain. Learning about different cultures has made such a positive impact on my life, and so it’s something I feel passionate about sharing with our audience of young adults for Peerscroller. It’s important to me that our videos are accessible and fun, referencing things they are familiar with to gently encourage empathy and understanding. For Migrants Day, I wrote ‘Paddington and Being British’! When we have so many fun films and cultural events that our students know about, why not use them as a point of connection with them to encourage deeper thought? Across the Peerscroller cast, we’re also covering, ‘How does the media talk about people moving to the UK’, ‘What do the words ‘migrant’, ‘refugee’ and ‘asylum seeker mean?’, as well as how to help a classmate that has just moved to the UK feel welcome!  Whether we were born here or not, we can all welcome people into our country and communities! If your school is celebrating Migrants Day, or if you feel as passionately about this as I do, check out these videos on your Peerscroller search! #internationalmigrantsday #pshe #peerscroller

A couple of years ago, I would never have imagined posting about how amazing another tuition provider is. The truth is, the tutoring sector has come a long way. Our new partnership with CHOICE HOME TUTORING is a shining example of collaboration over competition - a value that’s increasingly at the heart of this evolving industry. It’s genuinely inspiring to be part of such a supportive and forward-thinking sector. I recently attended the Leadership in Tuition Day, organised by The Tutors' Association, where I saw firsthand how Colin Murphy and Joanne Murphy of Choice HT exemplify true leadership. They understand that tuition isn’t just about academics - it’s about supporting the whole child. That’s why they’ve embraced Yipiyap’s Peerscroller offer as a resource for their students. Through Peerscroller, Choice HT’s students (and their parents) can access bite-sized, impactful content designed to address both study skills and real-life challenges young people face. Some topics include: Study skills and avoiding procrastination Mental health, self-esteem, and positive self-talk Building friendships and finding their voice Navigating online safety and developing healthy habits All of which are delivered in under 2 minutes! Choice HT is leading the way in delivering truly holistic tuition. We’re excited to hear how their students and parents benefit from using Peerscroller. #Collaboration #TutoringSector #HolisticTuition Visit Choice Home Tutoring: https://lnkd.in/eaKmnsZg Learn about Peerscroller: https://lnkd.in/eQmNNp-X

When I woke up yesterday morning the last thing I expected was to end up wearing a flak jacket and watching my husband in a 70s inspired fitness video, neon headband and leggings and all. But that's what 10 years at Yipiyap gets you, and a whole lot more!! It's 10 years since my husband Stuart Birkett and his good friend Chris Morris conspired over a curry to connect Anne Morris and Catherine Birkett to see if there was any common ground for us to work together on Anne's visionary idea of placing academic gap year students into schools to support other students. Little did they know what they had started! 10 years on, and what a journey! It has been a complete blast and having the chance to reflect on it all yesterday before our team Christmas Dinner through: 1. a brilliant and emotional speech from Anne 2. 'classic Catherine moments' from all the Leadership Team 3. a hilarious video with all the Yipiyap orphans (Dylan Morris Holly Morris Rose Morris and Hatty Birkett) having their say and a cutting edge fitness routine starring Stuart Birkett and Chris Morris (it has to be seen!). Ben Alldis Peloton Interactive you're safe!) 4. and, amongst others, the gift of a flak jacket - thoughtfully referencing my Insight report and tendency to be rather direct at times (classic red!) I can honestly say, there was no better way to mark this milestone! I loved every single minute and will remember it forever. It was classic Yipiyap company value no. 18- unique, fun and positive! So, a huge thank to all of our tutors past and present, everyone on our Leadership Team who I love and respect and make work such a brilliant place to be, to Stuart, Chris and the Yipiyap orphans who have enabled Anne and I to get on with things (even if it has meant we've forgotten you're there sometimes!) and finally to Anne, don't know what to say here, just a massive, massive 'THANK YOU' for having me along on this ride and trusting me with your baby! I really appreciate all the effort you have gone to to mark this occasion and, what can I say, just hope there are 4 good ones to watch on 11th July!! Wimbledon. Here's to the next 10 years and everything Yipiyap!

What impact is #Peerscroller having in schools? Peerscroller has been used in some of our partner schools for just three months, and early adopters are already seeing the benefits of a platform that offers insight into the mindset and priorities of their learners and parents. Newman RC College in Oldham has been exemplary in their delivery. With 500 learners already downloading the Peerscroller app, the content is quickly becoming a core part of PSHE lesson delivery. But how useful is it? Here are three ways Newman has seen real impact so far: ✅ Direct action Recent viewing analytics revealed that the second most-watched video was about accessing free period pads. As a result, the school has taken direct action - making period products more accessible and reducing stigma around them. How else might this hidden need have come to light? 👨👧👦 Parental engagement Newman also encourages parents to download the app, and their feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Comments from a recent Parent Forum include: “It's a great way for our young people to communicate and ask questions they might not otherwise ask parents or teachers.” “It’s a safe resource that pupils and parents can trust.” “It can be used to introduce a sensitive topic in a non-pressurised way.” 🔑 Seeking help One teacher shared how a student approached them about a personal issue by starting with, “I was watching a Peerscroller video about…” Many Peerscroller videos encourage students to seek advice from a trusted adult - and it’s working at Newman. A huge well done to Sophie McNee, Helen Pickavance, and the entire team at Newman RC College for making Peerscroller an integral part of their new PD curriculum and driving engagement across the whole school community. #StudentWellbeing #PSHE #PeerscrollerImpact Glyn Potts MBE DL Jack Schollar
